Silvan Dillier of BMC Racing has won Stage 6 of the 100th Giro d'Italia in Terme Luigiane as the race hit the Italian mainland.
The 26-year-old Swiss rider came round Trek-Segafredo's Jasper Stuyven in the final charge to the line and held him off to claim the biggest win of his career.
Dillier, like Stuyven, had been in the day's four-man break, with Lukas Postlberger of Bora-Hansgrohe, the first wearer of the maglia rosa at this year's race, finishing a distant third.
Stuyven had repeatedly tried to attack as the 217-kilometre stage from Reggio Calabria headed towards its conclusion, and banged his handlebars in frustration at being denied the win.
Bob Jungels of Quick Step Floors retains the overall lead, with Team Sky's Geraint Thomas remaining second and Adam Yates of Orica-Scott third.
