Police appeal for info about unexplained injury to cyclist in Hertfordshire

Officers investigating an incident where a cyclist was injured in Waltham Cross are appealing for information and witnesses, as they have little idea what happened.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm on Sunday June 4, a woman in her 50s was cycling on the bridge over the River Lea on Highbridge Street, making her way on to the river tow path.

The woman was discovered unconscious by a passer-by on the tow path, having sustained serious injuries. Police are working with the woman and her family to help understand how this occurred.

 Detective Sergeant Nick Rega of the Cheshunt Local Crime Unit who is investigating, said: “The incident occurred near a busy stretch of road on a Sunday afternoon when lots of people would have been walking and driving past.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or saw anyone walking along the river around the times stated. Also anyone with a dash camera is asked to review their footage to see if they have anything that may be of assistance.”

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene as well as air ambulance staff before being being taken to Queen's Hospital in Romford.
