Stop Killing Cyclists to hold vigil and die-in for cyclist killed on Camden Road

Police de-arrest van driver involved in the crash

Campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists (SKC) will on Monday hold a vigil in honour of the latest cyclist killed on London’s roads. Albanian national Ardian Zagani was struck by a Ford Transit van in Camden Road, Holloway, just after 6am yesterday and was declared dead at the scene minutes later.

The Islington Gazette reports that a van driver arrested after the crash has since been de-arrested with no charges pressed.

She had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was interviewed under caution at a north London police station.

In a statement on its Facebook page, SKC said:

“With regret we will be holding our another die-in and vigil to remember the 6th person killed while riding a bicycle in London this year after being hit by a van on Camden Road at the junction with Hilldrop Crescent at 6am on Tuesday, 29th August.

“We will begin gathering from 5.30pm on Monday 4th September at the junction of Camden Rd and Hilldrop Crescent. The vigil will formally start just after 6pm.

“Please bring flowers, candles, banners.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

I was practicing my knife throwing technique the other day when some stupid bugger wandered into my path and caught it in the back of the head.  It's not my fault 'cos he wasn't wearing a hi-viz or helmet.  It could happen to anyone!

If driving was governed by Health and Safety laws it would be banned.

Since when did killing somebody count as dangerous?

Since it became impossible to persuade the average jury of motorised cretins that killing someone with a car was actually the same ass killing them with a knife, gun, iron bar etc.

Thank you to all the people in this protest, I can't be there, but I'm with you in spirit.

De-arrested?  So quickly after someone has died?  Surely the investigation cannot have been thorough and conclusive  in that time?  Unless they have evidence that the cyclist was trying to commit suicide, this is ridiculous and obscene.

Are we seeing the Alliston effect?
