A man who stole and joyrode a bicycle at a charity bike ride has been charged by police.
Cyclists were lining up for the Oceanway Ride cycling event on Australia’s Gold Coast when a man in baggy shorts sailed past them on a bike.
As the national anthem played, he shouted, “I win, I win”.
Someone called out “that bike’s stolen” while another man yelled, “stop him”.
A furious chase ensued, with several onlookers following the thief on foot and one man throwing a drink in his face.
After a quick spin around the seafront, the man was tackled to the ground and held in a headlock.
Lachlan Boyle, one of the men who ended the pursuit, told 7 News the man even congratulated them on their tackle.
“A few of us jumped in front of him as he was coming towards us, and we got him off the bike and got it back to the other person,” he said.
“He actually said, ‘yeah good tackle guys, well done’.”
Police then arrested the man, who could be heard saying: “What am I getting arrested for?"
A 28-year-old Palm Beach man was charged with stealing and was due to appear in court on September 22, a police spokesman said.

Wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be a pissed UK tourist... the country's full of them!
Just remember where all these crims originally came from ...
A criminal in Australia is seen as unusual? OK Flame me!
Class im guessing he was slightly pissed
On Aussie beer? Is that even possible??
If someone served me Aussie Beer, I'd be pissed!
Boom tish!
“What am I getting arrested for?" We'll start with riding without a helmet, and then we'll get around to the trivial stuff like stealing a bike later. You probably get fined more for helmetless riding in Oz than you would for stealing a bike.
Actually, I wonder if the charge of stealing is going to stick? Wasn't the law about stealing a car changed to Taking Without the Owner's Consent (TWOCing) for just this reason? If you aren't intending to permanently deprive the owner of their goods, but to return them immediately, is it stealing? Not sure if the law on TWOCing applies in Oz though, or whether borrowing a bike is legally theft.
We need to be kept informed on this one.
Given how anti cyclist Australia appears I would not be surprised if he wasn't a government employee paid to remove as many cycles as possible.
Given the efforts made by the authorities in Australia to make cycling not even a little bit fun, cycling with 'joy' is just asking for trouble.
Given that it was Australia, I'm surprised that the police didn't just arrest *everybody*...
Those crazy Ausies.
