A 31-year-old man has pleaded not guilty today to causing the death by dangerous driving of Carol Boardman, the mother of world and Olympic champion cyclist turned campaigner, Chris Boardman.
Mrs Boardman, aged 75, died in hospital in July 2016 the day after she was struck by a pick-up truck being driven by Liam Rosney as she cycled in Connah’s Quay, Flintshire.
Rosney, from Connah’s Quay, entered his not guilty plea at Mold Crown Court today, reports the Daily Post.
Both Rosney and his wife Victoria Rosney, also 31, deny attempting to pervert the course of justice, with that charge reportedly relating to deleting data from mobile phones between July and November 2016.
The couple have been released on bail with a trial date of 9 July 2018 has been set by Judge Rhys Rowlands, and proceedings due to last five days.
Following his mother’s death, Chris Boardman said: “Our mum was the most positive outgoing person you could ever hope to meet and her generosity of spirit inspired everyone she met.
“Wanting to share her passion for cycling, even well into her seventies, she often took groups of young novices out on their first forays into North Wales.
“She leaves behind Keith, her partner for more than half a century, Lisa and I, and a large, loving family. We cannot yet conceive of a world without her in it.”
