Two men arrested after cyclist killed in Salford collision

Police appeal for witnesses following fatal crash in early hours of Sunday morning

Greater Manchester Police have arrested two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist was killed in Salford early this morning.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident at the junction of Trinity Way and Blackfriars Road.

The fatal collision, involving a black Vauxhall Vectra, happened at around 3am this morning, with officers arresting two men, aged 25 and 27.

Police are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who may have filmed dashcam footage.

Sergeant Jon McColl of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, commented: “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this devastating time.

"We have specially trained officers supporting them and I hope to soon be in a position to give them the answers they deserve.

"Whilst we have two men in custody, our investigation has only just began.

"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage.

"Also, if you were in the area at the time and saw the black Vectra prior to the collision, please do get in touch.”

Anyone who has any information is requested to contact police on 0161 856 4741 or 101, or the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

I used to live 500 yeards from this location and cycle around here a lot.

RIP. Don't know why the police bother charging as death by dangerous. The CPS will probably convert it to careless when it comes to court.
