The Etape Caledonia, one of the UK’s leading closed road sportives, has a new organiser and will return for 2019 at a date that is still to be confirmed.
It is one of three major events previously run by IMG that will now be organised under licence by sports agency Limelight Sports, the others being the London Triathlon and the Blenheim Triathlon.
They will join the company’s growing portfolio of events, which includes the London Duathlon, Swimathon and the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Limelight Sports also services agency clients including Nike and Fitbit.
The company is looking to grow all three events including attracting new sponsors and participants, with 5,000 people taking part annually in the Etape Caledonia, which has been held in Perthshire each year since 2007.
Craig Dews, CEO of Limelight Sports, said: “This is a terrific new opportunity for us, and we are very excited about getting the chance to take these events forward and further enhance their status and reputations.
“The London and Blenheim Triathlons and Etape Caledonia are three of the most popular and established participation events in this country. They will help us further grow the active world, encouraging more brands to engage their audiences through active experiences, whether by partnering with iconic events or developing their own experiences and campaigns.
“We are looking forward to working with the local communities, stakeholders and authorities to gain the appropriate support and approvals in order to fully develop the events.”
News of the new management of the event also appears on the Etape Caledonia website, stating:
As of Monday 8th October 2018, The Etape Caledonia is under new management. IMG will no longer be in charge of the day-to-day running of the event. Instead Limelight Sports will be managing The Etape Caledonia.
We want to take this opportunity to reassure all previous participants, future ones, loyal event supporters, volunteers and wider communities that the quality of The Etape Caledonia will remain as good as ever. Limelight Sports are well-known and recognised for delivering some of the best events in the business including The Royal Parks Half Marathon, The JP Morgan Corporate Challenge and the Descente London Duathlon.
We will post information about the date of the 2019 event and when entries will open as soon as we can – it will be open for entries very soon and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Any and all queries, customer service problems and unresolved issues pertaining to any previous editions of The Etape Caledonia will be dealt with by the organiser at the time of said event, i.e. IMG. To contact them about any questions you may have please email: massparticipation [at] img.com. Any messages on social media relating to these matters will be directed to this email address too.
Limelight Sports are extremely excited to be a part of this fantastic event and we look forward to leading it into a new era.
