Bristol's Better By Bike website showcases helmetcam footage of popular cycle routes

YouTube films aimed at helping encourage people to take to two wheels for their travel needs

A website set up by Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council as part of the Cycling City project is encouraging residents of the city to get out and about on their bikes by posting helmetcam footage of popular cycling routes.

Videos posted on the Better By Bike website to date include one showing the route from Bradley Stoke to Cribbs Causeway, another from Cabot Circus to St Werburghs Park via the Frome Greenway, and examples of short-cuts such as one past The Dower House and Hermitage Wood.

You can browse the full list of videos here, and for routes that don’t have a video associated with them, you can get directions through a link on the right of the webpage to the Transport Direct website, although you may prefer to get the route through a more user-friendly site such as CycleStreets; if you’ve got a smartphone with the Bike Hub app, which also provides a route planner based on CycleStreets, even better.

More videos are scheduled to be added to the website in future, according to a BBC Bristol report.
