British Cycling encourages you to share the love with your bike today (+ video)

Valentine's Day Love Cycling celebration runs on website, Twitter and Facebook...

In case you’d forgotten* it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow, and British Cycling is encouraging the nation’s bike riders to help share the love for all things two-wheeled through its Facebook and Twitter pages, with some exclusive British Cycling ‘Love Cycling’ schwag up for grabs.

On its website, the governing body, presumably using its best Barry White-style intonation, asks: “Are you ready for love? We are! This Valentine's Day, we've got something special lined up and we want you to be a part of it.”

British Cycling has also released a short video, complete with French crooner soundtrack, to get you into the, er, mood, although if you ask us, buying your bike some lube for Valentine’s Day is sailing dangerously close to the story of that chap caught in flagrante with his two-wheeled companion a few years back.

The invitation continues: “Here at the British Cycling love shack, we're tired of the usual Valentine's Day treadmill and think that our wonderful sport and pastime of cycling deserves some love.

“All day, we'll be asking you to share your passion for bikes and biking with us. We'll be asking you to share your romantic rides for two, your cheeky Valentine's Day solo rides, your love for your bike and for cycling itself.

"We also plan on sharing just how much we love you, the British Cycling member, with a fly-on-the-wall insight into the work of our Membership team.

“So don't forget, on Monday, tune in to our Homepage, Facebook fan page and our Twitter account and join in the fun! Everyone who takes part will be in with a chance to win some exclusive British Cycling 'Love Cycling' goodies.”

* And if you had forgotten and you do have a Significant Other, stop reading right now and go buy something. We’ll still be here when you get back. Should you have more than one Significant Other, your partner and the bike, for example, then we’re reliably informed – well, okay, someone mentioned it on Twitter, so maybe not so reliably – that Morrisons is doing a 2-for-1 offer on Valentine’s cards. Which is nice, as long as the wife doesn't find the receipt...
