The Classics season has been a cracker this year and the Paris-Roubaix was no exception: dust, cobbles, crashes, tears, fanatical support and a kick-start to Garmin-Cervelo's season courtesy of John Vansummeren's solo win. And in the road.cc and Evans Cycles Fantasy Cycling game there were some big scores posted, and changes at the top of the table...
First off, apologies to anyone that transferred out Vansummeren ahead of his win; he was greyed out in the final team roster because he'd been replaced in the final start list that we saw on Saturday. That turned out to be wrong; road.cc's own Tony was one of the casualties. That didn't stop some teams racking up a very decent haul over the cobbles, so let's see who topped the scoring...
Two teams – Cyclobabes and Team Middleton PainPushers – posted an impressive 81 points apiece and both had Cancellara, Hushovd and Hayman in their line-ups. They both had five scoring riders, Cyclobabes picking Ballan and Tjallingii and Team Middleton PainPushers going with Bak and Rast. Incidentally you can now view a league table for each stage: just go to your game homepage and click the table link next to the stage number in the list of stage scores.
And what of the top of the table? That's been owned by road.cc's own Simon Macmichael over the last two weeks and although he's still in the mix his 38-point haul wasn't enough to keep top spot. That went to dr_brock, who picked Guesdon, Hayman, Flecha, Hushovd, Cancellara and Hammond to post a huge 75 points and hit the front with 207 points from four stages, a 52-point average which is very tidy. Just one point behind are pablo's peddlers, who racked up 74 points on the pavé to leap ahead of Simon, who's third on 199 with cc Borgo Ticino.
Next up is the Amstel Gold race on Sunday - we'll be posting the provisional start list for that one later today. After that there's two more classics – La Flèche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège – before it's time to start gearing up for the first Grand Tour of 2011, the Giro d'Italia. If you're not registered in the game yet then look out on road.cc later today for a really, REALLY good reason to get a team entered before the Giro kicks off in Turin...
