Saddle up for theatrical Tour de Mayfest

Bristol theatre festival invites audiences to attend by bike

A Bristol theatre festival is latching onto the city's status as one of the UK's first Cycling Cities by inviting theatre audiences to take part in the Tour de Mayfest by bike.

Although Bristol is famously hilly, the cycling tour for theatre-lovers will be a more sedate affair than its partial namesake (the French one) travelling from venue to venue by bike, but stopping off for a rest and some entertainment in between.

Mayfest is Bristol’s annual festival of physical, visual and experimental theatre, and invites cyclists to converge on the city's Tobacco Factory, in Raleigh Road, Southville, to begin the theatre-hopping tour on Saturday, May 16.

Attendees will be provided with a packed lunch before setting off in convoy around the city, to see the plays - Of All the People in All theWorld, Overlap, MyWorld is EmptyWithout You and finishing at Bristol Old Vic for TheWeepers.

The day of theatre and cycling, including lunch, will cost just £20 or £15 concessions, although bikes are not provided.

Cyclists are advised to dress for the weather and children must be accommpanied by an adult.

Booking is via the Bristol Old Vic Box Office, by May 1, on 0117 987 7877
