Campagnolo launch electronic time trial/triathlon range

Italian brand add components to their EPS system

Campagnolo have today launched time trial/triathlon components for their electronic EPS groupsets.

We reported on the EPS road bike products, which come in both Super Record and Record flavours, when we headed out to Campag HQ in Vicenza, Italy, last November. We actually spotted the bar end shifters on a bike when we were out there but we were sworn to secrecy at the time. Now Campag have gone public with their new designs.

As well as the bar end shifters and base bar brake levers with shift controls, Campag are also launching two TT/triathlon-specific aero chainsets that can be used with either electronic or mechanical shift systems. Rather than the usual arms to attach the crank arms to the chainrings, the spider is solid for increased aero efficiency.

Here are the key features of the new products…

Bar-end EPS controls

Back to zero position Lever automatically returns to zero position

Multi-shifting system You get the ability to shift up or down right across the cassette by pressing and holding the shifter. You don’t need to press three times to shift three sprockets, for example

Multi-Dome Tech This technology – with five aluminum dome-shaped layers stacked on top of one another – provides a click when you change gear. It was developed by Campy Tech Lab in collaboration with Campagnolo athletes. It’s intended to strike the perfect balance between operating force and tactile shift feedback. It also minimizes the possibility of unintentionally shifting the rear or front derailleur.

Switch Mode button The 'mode' buttons allow you to check battery charge, make fine adjustments to the rear or front derailleur - even while riding, and set the zero position of the derailleurs.

100% waterproof All control components are built to operate in any weather conditions.

EPS brake lever shift controls

Aerodynamic shape For low drag.

Ergonomic lever profile Designed for maximum safety and braking modulation.

Quick release system Eases installation and removal of the wheels and allows you to open the distance between rim and brake pads

Separation of shift buttons The buttons are positioned well apart from one another to minimise the risk of shifting mistakes – in keeping with Campagnolo’s philosophy of ‘One lever, one action’.

Bar end EPS interface

• LED glows in different colours to give you the system status.

• Manages the setting procedures.

• Receives impulses from the controls and translates them into digital signals that are transferred to the power unit.

• Maintains a dialogue with the power unit and thereby processes the information.

Dual cable wiring For simultaneous control of the bar-end shifters and brake lever shift controls.

Bullet Ultra Chainset

Streamlined cranks in unidirectional carbon fibre Makes for a light and stiff crankset that maximizes power transfer to the road with what Campag claim to be unparalleled aerodynamics.

Full carbon fibre spider The shape of the chainring mount is specifically designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency while also increasing the overall stiffness of the crankset.

XPSS Exclusive design of the eight upshift zones and two downshift zones of the chainring. The specific profile of the teeth and the zones dedicated to upward and downward chain movement enables fast and precise shifting in all conditions

Power-Torque bottom bracket System with single axle designed to maximize stiffness and power transfer.

USB Technology USB ceramic ball bearings reduce friction, guaranteeing maximum smoothness and resistance to corrosion and wear; they maintain consistent performance over time.

Chainrings available 50/34T, 52/36T, 53/39T

Lengths available 170mm, 172.5mm, 175mm

Weight 815g

Bora Ultra chainset

XPSS Exclusive design of the eight up-shift zones and two down-shift zones of the chainring. The specific profile of the teeth and the zones dedicated to upward and downward chain movement enables fast and precise shifting in all conditions

Titanium axle and titanium screws with left-handed thread Reduce the overall weight of the crankset by 40g.

Ultra-Hollow Technology hollow cranks and spider Reduces weight, increases stiffness and maximizes weight to stiffness ratio

Ultra-Torque bottom bracket Power to the pedals is transferred efficiently.

CULT Technology A combination ceramic ball bearings and special Cronitect steel. The bearings are lubricated with only a light oil, increasing the smoothness of the crank nine-times, according to Campag. Resistant to corrosion for improved longevity.

Chainrings available 53/39T, 54/42T, 55/42T

Lengths available 170, 172.5, 175mm

Weight 795g

EPS is so expensive though, hopefully this will mean we'll see equivalent DI2 TT products soon.
