Hertfordshire County Council opens consultation on cycling strategy in southwest of county

Hertfordshire County Council has opened a consultation regarding a number of proposed improvements to cycle routes in the southwest of the county, as well as future spending priorities on initiatives including secure bike parking, as part of a drive to get more people cycling. The area covered by the South West Herts Transport Plan include Watford, Bushey and the Three Rivers district.

The draft consultation and associated documents, including a 53-page report prepared by consultants Steer Davies Gleave, can be found on the Hertfordshire County Council website, and can also be viewed in the receptions of Watford Borough Council, Hertsmere Borough Council and Three Rivers District Council.

Stuart Pile, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, commeted: "We want people to let us know their views on the strategy by completing the online questionnaire. We are committed to helping more people cycle whether for trips to work, school, for leisure or for shopping. This is a healthy and sustainable way to get around the area and we would like cycling to be an increasing part of our transport mix.”

Following the close of the consultation period on 22 July, the council says it will asses all comments and make appropriate revisions to them, with specific projects being developed subject to funding.
