Tour de France star Mark Cavendish will swap the pressure of the European tour for a different kind of peloton north of the border this coming Tuesday. The Team Columbia rider will start the inaugural Right To Play Pedal Power the Change Ride in Holyrood park, Edinburgh.
It will be Cavendish’s first appearance in the UK since his record breaking six stage victories at this year’s Tour de France. But on this occasion his will be in a supporting team role to help Official Team Columbia Charity Partner Right To Play set off 100 intrepid riders on an epic 500 mile ride from capital to capital.
Taking place across six stages from Tuesday-Sunday, August 23 the money raised from the ride will help fund children to attend Right To Play’s Sport for Development Programmes, a scheme which has benefited the lives of so many children worldwide.
Right To Play is an international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
Right To Play have also teamed up with the association of British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) who will provide hospitality for the riders as the ride between university towns across the country.
Other partners include the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Highland Spring, Endura and Science in Sport with additional on ride fuel and support from brands such as Pulp smoothies, Carman’s Muesli bars and Vitabiotics.
