Lizzie Armitstead out of Saturday's world championship road race through illness

British Cycling says no reserve will be called up at this stage

British Cycling has announced that Lizzie Armitstead, who took Olympic silver in the road race last month behind Marianne Vos of the Netherlands, is out of this Saturday's world championship road race in Limburg due to illness.

In a brief statement, the giverning body confirmed that "the team have decided not to call in a reserve rider at this stage."

That means that Great Britain will be represented by five riders in the race - fomer world and Olympic champion Nicole Cooke, Emma Pooley, who missed out on a time trial medal yesterday, finishing fourth, current British national champion Sharon Laws plus Katie Colclough and Nikki Harris.
