This year's Cycle Show is going all-out to cater for the new wave of women cyclists by teaming up with leading cycling fashion brand Cyclodelic to host a range of in-show female-friendly features as well as launching the Cyclodelic’s Girls Guide to Cycling.
In the last 12 months, women’s cycling has really been on the up, with the success of Olympic gold medallists Rebecca Romero, Victoria Pendleton, and Nicole Cooke – and a growing awareness of the health and financial benefits – cycling has been dubbed "the yoga of the noughties" (Doh! and I thought it was golf - ed).
Cyclodelic’s Girls Guide to Cycling aims to demystify many of the issues facing the growing number of women who cycle by hosting specialist talks from experts about everything from the best cycling commuter routes to nutritional advice for those who take part in competitive cycling.
Developed and designed by Cyclodelic Founder, Amy Fleuriot, the various in-show features will address the wideranging obstacles that female cyclists face today. Hosting the two-hour sessions daily will be the well-respected triathlete Annie Emerson, who will welcome a range of expert guests on-stage to answer audience questions and offer insider tips on everything from looking good on the cycling commute to the best places to go on cycling holidays.
Divided into themed days, the Friday of the show will be geared towards commuting and will provide a definitive how-to guide for cycling to work; from the best routes to take, to what to wear to stay looking stylish in the saddle.
Saturday’s focus on competitive cycling will provide visitors with a unique chance to hear from the female cycling stars of the track, BMX, Road, Triathalon and Mountain-biking worlds. And Sunday will investigate the fun side of cycling with a focus on cycling holidays and popular day out destinations for families.
Cyclodelic’s Amy Fleuriot said: “I wanted Cyclodelic’s Girls Guide to Cycling to be a celebration of all types of cycling; to cater for complete beginners and fanatics alike. By bringing together the leading experts in every field, from fashion to mechanics, we will be able to talk directly to women of all cycling abilities. The Cycle Show is pushing boundaries with this new programme of events and I’m really looking forward to sharing our knowledge with as many female cycling fans as possible.”
Taking place in the main arena, Cyclodelic’s Girls Guide to Cycling will showcase Top Gear style video demonstrations of new products as well as an all-new Fashion Show revealing next season’s hottest cycling looks.
On top of this, the Cyclodelic stand will be running hands-on consultancy sessions from their stand where women of all cycling abilities will be able to find friendly expert advice about everything from choosing their first bike to fitting their cycling gear to our own personal style. Complete with Women-only Maintenance Sessions from Bike Tech and The Bike Doctor, Cycle Show 2009 will be the ultimate day our for any woman who has ever taken to two wheels.
The growing popularity of cycling amongst women has not gone unnoticed by the cycling industry and Cycle Show director Andrew Brabazon said: “We’ve known for years that female cyclists are just as passionate about cycling as their male counterparts but it is encouraging to see that so many new cyclists are women.
“In programming this year’s event, we were aware of the need to cater to this significant cycling audience and we are confident that we have an unparalleled range of speakers
and in-show features tailored to a growing number of female attendees.”
Cycle Show 2009 is taking place at Earls Court 1, London from the 9th-11th October and is open from 10am-6pm Friday and Saturday, and from 10am-5pm on the Sunday.
