Morvélo CityCross video trailer released

The other day Morvélo released details of CityCross, an urban cyclocross race they're staging in and around a decaying abandoned mill in central Halifax on 3 March. To give a little taste of what you can expect, if you're planning to race or spectate, they've just released this video.

The Morvélo crew like a good video, and this is no exception. They even arranged for it to be sunny, can they repeat that on race day? So have a watch, then when you're done details of the race day are below.

Shunning the usual one hour race format, they're going to attempt to keep the action fast and frantic by adopted moto-style seeding heats. The top 50% finishers from each 30-minute heat will progress through to the next round. This simple process is repeated until the final is reached.

They're also shunning the usual school playing field or park as a venue. Having found an unloved and crumbling ruin of a former mill in central Halifax, they're offering a unique setting for a cyclocross race. This will offer some unique challenges, piles of rubble, other man-made obstacles, steps, a beer tent on the course and the potentially deafening cowbell alley.

All that and the venue is close to the city centre, so it's easy for spectators to get there. Morvélo promise that spectating will be as much fun as racing. There’ll be loads of catering options, with the obligatory frites, but also Hog Roast and even Sushi as well as lots of great brands showing their latest range of goods.

Races will cater of all categories including Under 12's, Youths, Juniors, Women Only, Novices, Seniors and Vets. Racing is open to cyclocross and mountain bikes, they’re making it as welcoming to all abilities as possible.
