Bristol man embarks on charity ride in memory of cycling buddy who died training

Partner fell into Bristol Harbour and died when his wheels caught in a rail track

A man whose cycling buddy died when she fell into the harbour at Bristol is to embark on the 200 mile charity bike ride they had planned together.

Sean Philips, 40, fell into the water near M Shed on March 6, when his front wheel caught in railway tracks and he collided with the Balmoral. He fell into freezing water, and although pulled out by passers-by, did not survive.

His friend and colleague Tom Casey, 48, said he had struggled to continue without Sean.

He told the Bristol Evening Post: "I did not cycle for three weeks afterwards and originally I was not going to do it (the charity ride). But then I decided to go ahead and complete the ride for Sean's chosen charity and for Sean too."

Tom has begun the ride to Amsterdam they planned together, and has adopted Sean's charity, hoping to increase the £8,500 he had already raised.
