Proud to be a #bloodycyclist? Buy the jersey and tell the world

Jersey from Belgian brand Decca comes from same people behind #bloodycyclist website - there's a t-shirt and bidon too...

One positive thing to have come out of the Emma Way saga, besides the focus it has placed on the safety of cyclists and misconceptions on the part of some drivers about 'road tax' is that bike riders have reclaimed the #bloodycyclist hashtag for themselves – and now you can buy a jersey to proclaim that you are proud to be one.

The jersey, which costs £38, of which £5 will be donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, is from the same people who set up the #bloodycyclist website and Facebook page which aim to raise awareness “of the dangers cyclists face on a daily basis.”

The website and Facebook page were set up with the blessing of Toby Hockley, the cyclist knocked off his bike by Ms Way. The jersey is made by Belgian brand Decca, now also operating in the UK through Norwich based BottleSports, and which supplies Toby’s club, Iceni Velo.

According to #bloodycyclist, the now notorious ride in which Toby was knocked off his bike was his new jersey’s first outing, and Quinton Van Loggerenberg of Decca says: ““We are confronted every day with the results of aggression by roads users leading to accidents.

“Decca is delighted to work with #bloodycyclists to bring awareness and respect to ALL road users, making the roads safer for all.”

Also available are a t-shirt and bidon, and you can find details of all three items on the shop section of the #bloodycyclists website.

I too think this jersey is in bad taste. Making cyclist look even worse than we do already to the car drivers. Also having read most of the reports ( and local knowledge) about the twitter incident, I would hold judgment on the whole matter it seems to be a bit of a fishermans tale being told. Yes the girl was a knob to tweet the way she did. With jerseys and and hate campaigns cyclist don't look very good out of the whole situation

These look great! Is there going to be a version of this jersey where the writing is changeable?

I'd love it if one day it said "you didn't knock me off, I'm too hard to be hurt by a pissy micra or whatever it was you were driving."

Then later change the text to "I was thrown up on to the bonnet. I hit the side of windscreen and the wing mirror"

and why not change it again to:

"She came on to my side of the road, I took the wing mirror off and I went flying off my bike into a hedge."

I'd really like a single jersey that keeps up with all of these - and future - changes in the story.

And what is the fascination of bike jerseys in easy to see black?
Not for me.

If you were the same size as me you'd see the attraction of black gear. 4

Looks like they've listened to feedback and amended the wording slightly - https://www.facebook.com/Bloodycyclist/posts/449688795124876

I do think that if a driver is going to be antagonised by a jersey they probably don't need much excuse for anything to set them off though!

I think any driver that is antagonized by a jersey is probably going to hate cyclist no matter what but at least with the story still fresh in their minds they may think twice.

They might also think that the lady in question hasn't actually been charged with anything yet, never mind found guilty and behave in a similar fashion. Its putting two fingers up for the sake of it and the cycling equivalent of moronic drivers who shout "pay ye road tax' from the car window. Goes totally against the share the road message imho

I love the fact that #bloodycyclist has been claimed by cyclists but this is just too cycle nerdy; reminds me of the similar (but much more poorly named) ipayroadtax one. 26 I think the best statement cyclists can make is getting on our bikes as much as possible and using the road safely, politely and considerately. In my book that says much more than a slogan or #.

Agree with the posts about the antagonistic impact. We all know that there is a small proportion of drivers who aren't bright enough to see the irony (are you reading this Emma?)and would simply over-react. Doesn't it also reinforce some of the two tribes feelings that exist?

Some are as aggresive on their bikes as the worst car drivers. We are all just road users, I use a Cervelo one day and a Volvo XC90 the next. Am i a motorist or a cyclist.
I think its antagonistic
Someone should capture and market the phrase Share the Road and make a kit that looks good with it 39

Here are some road kit message examples sold:
"DON'T RUN ME OVER"
"If You Can Read This, You're Too Close"
"Share The Road Sign"
"STOP UR TXTING"
"Cyclists Pay Taxes"
"If You Can Read This, I Need More Room"
"<-- 3 Feet Thanks"
"One Meter -->"
"Share the Damn Road or Else"
"SHARE THE DAMN ROAD"
"SHARE THE ROAD"
"I'M A TAXPAYER"

Seems a bit antagonistic to me, don't really see the point other than someone trying to make a few quid on the back of the story. What's the point in trying to wind drivers up ? Just ride your bike

'Bloody cyclist' might give drivers an excuse to injure us - I certainly don't want to end up in a ditch as a'bloody' cyclist, or worse! 3

Have to be careful with anything that might antagonise a motorist. If they are having a bad day, this could be the final piece of provocation that could mean them knocking off a cyclist. There are all kinds of unpredictable people out there - we really dont need to give them the excuse.

Fantastic, I'll be buying one.

Though I cannot help but feel that the '#bloodycyclist' text on the front should be repeated and that the 'proud to be a' text is antagonistic to motorists.
