Tour de France Fan Park coming to Canary Wharf during race's final week

Cycling fans in or near London who are unable to get to the Alps in person to watch the final week’s action unfold in the Tour de France next month can watch all the drama at a Fan Park open at Canary Wharf from 15 to 21 July.

Entry is free, with the Fan Park open daily from 10.30am to 10.00pm, and later still on the final day due to that unprecedented evening finish on the Champs-Elysées.

Besides a big screen showing live coverage and highlights of stages, there will be photo exhibitions, exclusive features from the Tour, and stands showcasing not only French regional produce, but also those of Yorkshire as it prepares to host the Grand Départ next year. Appearances are also promised from leading names of sport and beyond.

The Fan Park, located on Wood Wharf, actually opens on the Tour’s second rest day, when the big screen will presumably show highlights of what promises to be a belter of a stage on Mont Ventoux the previous day.

We’d expect it to prove popular, coinciding as it does with stages including that double ascent of the Alpe d’Huez on Thursday 18 July, and of course the finale in Paris on Sunday 21 July with Mark Cavendish aiming for a fifth straight win on the Champs Elysées prior to the winner of the maillot jaune in the 100th Tour de France being crowned in front of the Arc de Triomphe.
