£1 Aksium wheels in Mavic’s limited time offer

Buy a set of top-end Mavic race wheels and get a pair of £220 Aksiums for just £1

Mavic is offering a set of Aksium S wheels, worth £220, for just £1 when you buy a set of its top-end race wheels.

Applying to its Cosmic CXR 80, CXR 60, Carbone 40 and R-SYS SLR wheels from October 1st to November 30th, the offer gets you a pair of winter training wheels for just £1. The idea, reckons Mavic, is to buy your summer race wheels now and get a set of nearly free wheels to ride on over the winter.

The deal means you can get a set of the brand new £1,800 Cosmic Carbone 40 wheels, and for just one more of your English pounds, a set of Aksium S wheels for when the weather is too nasty for your carbon wheels. The Cosmic Carbone 40 wheels are the company’s first carbon clincher with a lightweight alloy extrusion with a carbon shell bonded around it. David is currently reviewing them, and has been very impressed so far, here’s his just in article on them with all the details.

Head over to www.mavic.com/winter-offer to find out more.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. ''and then spend my top-end money on some quality wheels from another brand''
i'd guess you don't really know wheels if that's what you think.. Mavics are easy to get spares for, freehubs easy to service or change, use better sealed bearings than most of their so called competitors.. this is from my own and a colleagues experience, we are experienced technicians, working with Mavic and competitors goods every week, Mavic is the daddy , period..factor in the British climate and road conditions... then decide...

Agreed. One of the reasons I'm not biting at this offer is that my 2006 Cosmic Carbones are still perfect; never needed truing, hubs never needed touching. There's more to good wheels than just light weight...

When the disc brake thing really takes hold of the market you'll probably be able to buy their top end wheels for rim brakes second hand for not much more than a pound!

When will that be? When we've all decided to chuck our existing bikes on the scrap heap and spend £££ replacing them..? (i.e. never)

smacks of desperation really? big brands don't do this out of love, but because they are stuck with stock that is not selling..

Mavic's top-end wheel sets not selling well?

because, perhaps, they are overpriced / heavy / under featured, compared to the competition: Roval, Fulcrum, etc.

Mavic's thinking: "so let's throw in some of our cheap wheels for £1 when you buy our overpriced top-end wheels!"

I would rather buy their "cheap wheels" for my commuting hybrid at the regular street price, and then spend my top-end money on some quality wheels from another brand
