VIDEO: Green gimp attempts to break speed cam record

Papier mache aero kit and 'Hulking' - will it make one ordinary cyclist hit super-speed?...

“I found I don’t really fit in with cyclists around here,” are the first words from the mouth of this chap in a green gimp suit. No sh*t.

I could cycle 100 miles in a day, he goes on to claim, but that’s not what he’s into.

Speed is where it’s at.

Cut to a bedroom laboratory, where a man dressed as the Incredible Hulk is testing home-made aero helmets.

It’s spray-painted green for aggression, apparently, he explains, before inspecting a map of a straight stretch of road in Cumbria.

All this, in pursuit of a speed limit; one set by a fluorescent yellow roadside speed trap, set to 45mph.
Does he manage it? Watch the vid to find out.

Some time ago I managed to get the 30mph camera on Salthouse Road in Barrow in Furness to flash me 24

Love the film, cycling needs more of this!

I watched a vid of a rollerblader getting flashed by a camera and he found that the camera could only 'see' him when he was wearing a high-vis tabard. I'm not sure if this is to do with colour, contrast or surface area but it worked for him.

The whole morph suit craze is a weird one. On Halloween the doorbell went and our neighbour's kid was stood there in a full cover pink morph suit - his mate in a black suit. Both looked like gimps - which for 12 year old boys is a bit alarming. Reminded me of the very funny Wayne's World version of Madonna's Justify My Love.

Great film guys. Maybe you can check out the Club Rider cartoons on Spin Cycle Magazine and do a film series on cyclist weirdos?

Rather than a custom paper mache bike perhaps he could get that little extra speed by say... using the drops.

Anyone know if they'll be releasing replicas of that helmet in time for the BCTT Nationals next year?

I've been doing it wrong.
With this latest research from sports psychology I will improve my performance.

You won't like me when I am angry.

Most villages in Nottinghamshire tell you how fast you are going as you pass a speed indicator board. Normally we fly by at 14mph.

The film 24 definitely fits the desciption of "bad cycling".

Good to see some pisstaking, I sometimes feel the cycling world rather like rugby is going the way of soccer and becoming self serving and far to serious for it's own good. The wind tunnel and aero helmet was my favourite bit, reminded me of all the crap promo's manufactures produce for their latest bike launch. Really looking forward to part two.

Scowel: he's breaking no laws. Speed limits legally don't apply to bicycles!

As long as he doesn't try it in Richmond Park! They'll throw the book at him there - if Fenton doesn't get him first.

There's a road I know of where motorists seem to hit 60-70 mph late at night or in the early hours. There's one of those pointless speed readout display things, that gives a frowning face if you go over 30. I almost never see it do anything but frown at a motorist (what _is_ the point of it?), but have never managed to get it to do so at me (not even close)

Isn't it totally irresponsible to be advocating a cyclist breaking the law by speeding on this site? Ha ha ha, whatever...

Love it although I'm pretty sure that helmet is not UCI approved.

0.4 mph short. 13

Surely some green aero lycra shoe covers over his trainers would fix that?

I fear that helmet could get him into trouble should he bump into Sigourney Weaver on holiday in Cumbria with her neutron blaster.

I'm going straight to Argos to invest in a wind tunnel...

Anyone wanting to try and repeat this should look up Morphsuits http://www.morphsuits.co.uk/

That's what he is wearing, rather than a "gimp suit" 3

Is not it nigh on impossible to set off a camera with just one bike? I went through a 30 camera at ~ 45 on a downhill many times but everytime - nothing. Even if I sat up just for it in hope it would have more to register.

You can get ski jackets with radar plates in so you can be found after avalanches. I've always thought it might possible with one of these. But quite hot to try.

I set off a camera on way down Cumnor Hill coming into Oxford once - and I'm not exactly Vincenzo Nibali when it comes to descending. Proud moment 3

Teach me your ways!

What could help? Wearing all white? Although I could be wasting time as I'm not sure if that camera is working even.

The question of "is he actually serious?" makes me laugh even more 24 .

I'm sorry but 5 mins online can make you recognise some of the blatant mistakes so easily.

He'd smash it on a recumbent, mind you there's a 40 speedcam on the downhill A90 into Aberdeen...
