At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

These lightweight cycle-specific socks are highly ventilated, good value and they come with a neat little Union Jack round the back and some Great Britain logos.

Like Moose's Road Master socks that Leonie reviewed last year /content/review/32287-mooseeu-road-master-sock, these are made from 80% ClimaWell, 10% polypropylene, 5% polyamide (nylon) and 5% elastane.

ClimaWell is a polyproylene fabric that's said to contain silver ions to prevent bacteria from reproducing. This in turn is supposed to prevent odours. Does it work? Put it this way: if you get sweaty feet while you're riding, your socks are going to smell whatever, but I've found that these come out of the washing machine smelling okay ready for next time. They don't cumulatively build up a stink like some technical clothing out there.

The upper bit of the foot is mesh so if you have vents in your shoe uppers. air can get right in to keep your toes cool. It also means that moist air can escape out. Clearly, that means these socks are best suited to warm weather riding; they don't provide much in the way of winter warmth.

The toes, the soles and the ankle section are denser and the double thickness cuff is 4cm tall. There's also an elasticated band around your mid-foot that helps hold them in place. I've found these to be soft and comfortable and you can't feel the seams when you're riding.

My only real criticism is that these did start to show their age pretty early on. Like most white socks, they were a lot less gleaming after getting caught out in the rain a couple of times, and the outer face soon went a little bobbly too. Still, those factors didn't affect the performance; they're still doing a good job.

Moose say, "In this series of products we focused on the graphics rather than the conventional emphasis on the technical aspects of the product. The sock has an inscription of Great Britain and the British flag on the hem. Enjoy!

Composition: 80% ClimaWell, 10% Polypropylene, 5% Polyamide, 5% elastane"

They're comfortable, warm-weather socks with good ventilation.

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

Here's the spiel on Climawell:

"The ClimaWell is a polypropylene yarn with active biogenic silver ions (Ag+)

- The ClimaWell prevents bacteria, viruses and mildews from reproduction. It keeps natural biological microclimate of the skin and helps to eliminate disagreeable odour. The ClimaWell is a totally non-toxic material without any health hazard.

- As every functional material the ClimaWell is naturally non-deliquescent with good dampness transportation and quick dry.

- Silver in the ClimaWell core works against static electricity, helps to cure various sores and scratches on the skin.

- Thanks to its production technology the ClimaWell is surprisingly abrasion-resistant, thus the products made of it are agreeably durable. The fibre is easily recyclable at the same time.

I have to say, I have some Moose products after reading Leonie's review last year, almost a year to the day 19

http://road.cc/content/review/32287-mooseeu-road-master-sock

I see they have dropped 1/2 a star with this reviews

I have their Jiri Jezek socks with the world champ bands, their Road Master's as reviewed and their kitted shoe covers with the huge MOOSE down the site, very well made products for decent prices
