At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

If you want to stand out on your next audax or sportive then these quirky Buzzin' and Road Hog Jersey designs from Devon new kids Half Baked Brand are just the ticket.

As jerseys go, they're pretty standard. Coolmax fabric for wicking, 3/4 length zip, three rear pockets (plus a bonus zipped pocket) and a silicone waist gripper. It's all good stuff but lets face it, you're not buying these for the tech are you? I spotted their Devon flag jersey a few years ago in my local LBS and was quite taken with it, especially as it was made by a local(ish) firm and not the ubiquitous Foska. They also do custom kit for clubs.

Fit on the (L) Buzzin' jersey was a little odd. HBB describe their jerseys as having a 'comfort fit' and so it was, across the chest and belly. The arms however were on the short side and rather tight. I'm not exactly Mr Muscle, so more burly gentlemen who frequent the gym might find them uncomfortably snug. There was a little more length than I'd expect, but as I'm fairly short in the body I took this as an added modesty bonus, handy when you're standing in the lift at work and feeling slightly underdressed and overexposed.

Quality isn't quite up there with the Foska Beanz jersey I tested a few years ago. That felt like a very good jersey which happened to have a novelty design printed on it. The HBB jerseys feel more like a means to display the design, if that makes sense. They're not just a cheap billboard though, they'll keep you cool and the zipped fourth pocket is nice to have.

Design, of course, is a matter of taste and HBB have plenty of others if you don't like these. I rather liked the Buzzin' - it's quirky but doesn't veer into Timmy Mallett, so-wacky-that-it-hurts territory. It also flattered my bumble-bee figure, which was nice. The Road Hog though I hated so much that I couldn't face wearing it out of the house. My wife would have refused to ride near me if I had, she hated it too. It's the same jersey as the Buzzin' (but in a Medium) and if you want it, just post a pig joke below this review and I'll send it to the person who makes me laugh loudest.

Verdict

Functional jerseys with quirky designs to help you stand out in a crowd.

road.cc test report

Make and model: Half Baked Brand Buzzin' and Road Hog Jerseys

Size tested: Medium and Large

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

Not much bumf, but HBB was started to supply kit to the club the owner rode for.

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

We have designed our club cut jerseys to be durable and comfortable. All our jerseys are made with COOLMAX® fabric for breathability and superior wicking, unless otherwise stated.

Men's jerseys all have three rear pockets

The artwork is printed using dye sublimation printing, which does not interfere with fabric performance. We use the best inks and highest available printer resolutions to insure a non-fading, clear set of images. Resistant to washing and heat our designs should last for many years to come after many hard rides

All jerseys come with YKK zippers, 3/4 or full depending upon the design and silicon gripper around the whole hem to stop that jersey irritatingly going on its own ride up your back!

I love the fact that you made him wear those! Novelty jerseys should be illegal!

One night a drunken farmer stumbles upstairs into his bedroom waking up his wife. His wife sits up and sees her husband holding a sheep under his arm.

"This is the pig I've been screwing" he yells.

"You Idiot", says the wife "Thats not a pig, its a sheep"

The farmer shouts, "Shut up, I was talking to the sheep!"

If you want pig jokes one could mention the thames valley police's (lack of)response to my submitting a video of a driver cutting me up, but I will try to stay above that line.
