Campagnolo EPS V3 electronic groupset goes wireless. Sort of...

New wireless connectivity and reshaped DTI interface unit, and a new slimmer battery

Campagnolo continues to tinker with its Record and Super Record EPS electronic groupsets, and the latest revision (V3) introduces a new DTI interface unit which is more aerodynamic and has a charging port and LED battery indicators.

The new control box is smoother and rounder than the previous version, and should sit better on the stem. The addition of a charging port (like Shimano’s Di2) will enable easier battery charging and the LEDs will indicate when the battery needs charging.

That’s not all. The update now includes built-in wireless connectivity, both ANT+ and Bluetooth, which allows the groupset to be synced to a compatible computer, tablet or smartphone.

This allows the gears to be adjusted or customised using Campagnolo’s new MyCampy app, available on iPhone and Android phones. It’s a free download. You can also change what the different shift buttons do, much like Shimano Di2, so if you aren’t happy with the default setup, you can customise to suit.

Here’s an overview of the updates to the V3 interface module:

  • Greater integration and compatibility, even with aero frames
  • Simple, trouble-free recharging – thanks to the new charging port on the interface
  • Improved LED diagnostics
  • Wireless technology permits EPS communication with PC / Notebook / Tablet / Smartphone  via Bluetooth / ANT+
  • Interaction system with the EPS groupset via the MyCampy App
  • Newly improved aerodynamic design
  • New shape fits perfectly on stem or bars
  • New multi-color LEDs – visible on three sides allowing rider to see information from any position.

The other update to EPS is the launch of a new battery, which it calls the  Power Unit. It’s now a slim cylinder shape so it’ll be easier to fit to modern frames, particularly aero road bikes with slim tube shapes and little space inside for Campagnolo’s previous battery. It’s also fit inside a seatpost. The new battery maintains the same key features as the previous version, such as vibration absorbing outer material and ultrasonic seals to ensure it’s completely waterproof.

No sign of a disc brake from Campagnolo yet though…

A couple of minor corrections - the Interface has *always* shown battery state & the Power Unit is not solely a battery - that's why it's called a "Power Unit" - it contains a cct board and chip running firmware elements of the gear control (as does the interface) and the battery management firmware as well ...

I think the Shimano XTR Di2 M9050 System Display is a step in the right direction with Battery level, Gear position, Shift mode shown in a digital display.  A vertical screen interface display would look good trailing behind a handlebar on an aero road bike. While the new Campagnolo DTI unit is less bodgey-looking with zip-ties than before, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
