Dassi UK-made carbon fibre road bike unveiled - huge photo gallery

Earlier this week we revealed British bicycle brand Dassi would be releasing its all-new UK-made carbon fibre road bike at the London Bike Show, and here it is in all its glory. 

Dassi has been designing road bikes since 2012, but its big ambition has been to manufacture a carbon fibre frame right here in the UK. It has finally achieved that, with the official unveiling this week of its new model.

Spearheaded by ex-Rolls Royce aerospace engineer Stuart Abbott, who has combined his own expertise with carbon fibre with the cutting-edge carbon know-how and manufacturing facilities from the world of Formula One, a frame has been developed that Stuart tells us puts quality before cost. 

Unlike the manufacturing of most carbon frames, the carbon fibre layup is done by machines, not by hand, and this provides a much higher level of precision. It also reduces the process time for each frame. The moulds are carbon fibre too, they’re normally aluminium, which is said to reduce the post-processing time required for each frame. 

It’s a beautiful looking frame. The curved top tube draws the eye into the curved seatstays. The curved down tube blends into an oversized bottom bracket, and the seat tube closely flanks the rear wheel. 

The frame is made from a mix of Toray 800 and 900 carbon fibre with unidirectional carbon used in key places. Frame weight for a 54cm is claimed to be 800g, which certainly places it towards the lighter end of the scale. There’s full internal cable routing, in keeping with the aerodynamic styling of the frame. 

The frame will command a premium price tag, £3,995, with a choice of five sizes from 50 to 58cm. They’ll be selling direct with each customer getting a customised paint finish. Customers can choose a BSA or BB30 bottom bracket and it’s Di2 compatible.
