Pinarello has unveiled the new X-Light version of its Dogma F10, as ridden by members of Team Sky in the Tour de France, which is 60g lighter than the standard model.
Pinarello says that the stiffness and aerodynamic efficiency of the Dogma F10 X-Light are the same as those of the existing Dogma F10 but that the frame weighs just 760g (+/-8%, raw frame, size 53) and the fork is 340g (+/-8%).
How has the brand saved that weight?
“Using the Torayca T1100G UD carbon fibre in the form of pre-preg with lower resin content already used on Dogma F8 X-Light, a new lay-up, a slower and more controlled moulding process and new dedicated moulds, we managed 60g of weight reduction on the frame,” says Pinarello.
Like some other members of Team Sky, Geraint Thomas was riding a bike logoed up as an F10 X-Light in the Tour de France before he crashed out – although, we have to say, it looked to us as if the ‘X-Light’ bit of the graphic had been added as a sticker to an existing bike, so perhaps it was just a marketing device.
The yellow bike that Chris Froome rode on the final stage of the Tour de France was the standard F10 rather than the X-Light version.

Everything else about the X-Light frame remains the same, so it is asymmetric (to handle the differing forces on either side of the bike) with flatback airfoil tube profiles. The concave down tube means the water bottle sits very close and is shielded by the frame for improved aerodynamic efficiency, and you get the choice of two different bottle cage positions on the seat tube – higher for easier use or lower for reduced drag.

The head tube is tapered (1 1/8in bearing at the top, 1 1/2in bearing at the bottom) and the bottom bracket is external (Italian thread).
Pinarello announced a disc version of the Dogma F10 last week. Get all the details here.
The Pinarello Dogma F10 X-Light will be available as a frame kit in a whopping 12 different sizes from 42cm up to 59.5cm. We don’t yet have a price for it.

So still heavier than the S Works Tarmac, the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX and the Trek Emonda.
Still more expensive than any of those.
Still more ugly.
Genius!
It's like they've just weighed the frames as they come out the factory and re-badged the lightest 10%
so if the saving is 60 grammes, and a frame weighs 760 +/-8%, could you end up with one that is 8% heavier thereby being the same as a standard frame for your extra cash? doesn't seem like the best choice...
