Crowdfunding to start soon for Bitmotion bike system

Bitmotion say their product 'turns any bike into a smart bike', with ride metrics, navigation, accident detection and an automatic bike light

The smart system links with your phone and provides a whole host of connected features, promising an 'immersive ride experience'.

The information is pretty thin on the ground so far, but what we can see is that Bitmotion is a device that you attach your phone onto, secure to your handlebars and also has an integrated light.  Navigation looks clean and super simple, with turn-by-turn instructions that is optimised to find your fastest route. In terms of smartphone connectivity it runs off Bluetooth LE 4.32, and will be available on Android 4.4 and iOS.

It tracks the basic speed, distance, altitude, calories etc, which can of course shared via Strava or Facebook. Bitmotion are claiming that the battery life is up to 30 hours. There's also an intelligent accident detection algorithm included in the ride protocol. The device detects potential accidents the rider is involved in and informs priority contacts along with your location.

The integrated AutoSmart Light looks particularly interesting, and Bitmotion say it's button-less with multi-mode functionality. It considers multiple factors like the ride patterns, external lighting conditions and time of the day to set the correct lighting for the conditions without you having to lift a finger.

Crowdfunding is set to start some time this month on Indiegogo, with no pricing information confirmed as of yet. For more info check out Bitmotion's website.

"Bitmotion is a device that you attach your phone onto"

My take on this is that the Bitmotion has its own integral screen, but the website is not absolutly clear on this. Your phone likely feeds GPS info, rather than physically connecting the two.  It depends on cost, but could be useful to keep your phone out of the weather and harms way.

Hi, just to clarify, yes! as you said, our device has an intergrated full colour 3.5 inch IPS display. It is fully sunlightlight readable. Also, our device works irrespective of your smartphone connection. It has an Inbuilt GPS sensor.

The light looks particularly interesting,  'considering' multiple factors before setting the lighting  for the conditions...

What, like 'On' or 'Off'?

Hi. We are sorry that the article does not offer complete feature explanation. Just to clarify, other than just switching ON and OFF autmotically based on lighting conditions, it does have auto dimming feature based on your start stop conditions, flashing and auto brightness adjust to give you a very hands free ride experience. It has a daylight mode as well where the periphery lights offer fulltime ride light. Thanks. Please visit our website www.bitmotion.bike for complete features and technical specs.

I thought 'an immersive ride experience' is what you get when you fall off the side of a towpath.

I already have "an immersive ride experience". I go out and ride.

More tech marketing speak/bullshitte.

So I buy something bulkier than my phone, to perform a small part of what my phone can do?

Alongside flashing indicator gloves and electronic chain-lubing systems this piece of cack is pretty pointless

Hi, Thank you for your views. We would like to clarify that the said product would be mainly targeted for leisure cyclist who would like to have a safe and informed ride without having to shell out 300-400$ for those biking accessories. Also, our device does offer legit reasons as to why it is better than a using a phone for your ride and what all it has to offer that your smartphone can't! You can visit our website here www.bitmotion.bike for complete features and tech specs. We will be crowdfunding on Indiegogo for 99$.
