Exclusive video: Mason's new Definition frame at the Cycle Show

We talk to Dom Mason about the new and improved 2018 Definition aluminium frame, which is now in its final production prototype form...

Quietly nestled away on Sram's stand at the Cycle Show over the weekend, a brand new prototype of the 2018 Definition from prestigious British bike designers Mason Cycles made its first public appearance.

Mason Definition review

As founder Dom Mason explains, although the Definition is an all-season bike potential customers were demanding a sportier geometry for performance riding, which the new frame delivers with a shortened rear-centre for a more responsive feel. It's also now gone thru-axle and flat mount, for which Mason worked with their Italian bike builders to design the dropouts and disc mounts from scratch so as to not compromise the ride.

Mason offer five different build options of the Definition, with the new version expected to be ready to buy before the end of 2017 - visit Mason's website for more info.

Jack has been writing about cycling and multisport for over a decade, arriving at road.cc via 220 Triathlon Magazine in 2017. He worked across all areas of the website including tech, news and video, and also contributed to eBikeTips before being named Editor of road.cc in 2021 (much to his surprise). Jack has been hooked on cycling since his student days, and currently has a Trek 1.2 for winter riding, a beloved Bickerton folding bike for getting around town and an extra beloved custom Ridley Helium SLX for fantasising about going fast in his stable. Jack has never won a bike race, but does have a master's degree in print journalism and two Guinness World Records for pogo sticking (it's a long story).

It was in the Sram booth.  Sram owns Zipp.
