howies mark Chris Froome’s return to racing with a new t-shirt design

Chris Froome is set to kick off his 2018 race season today in the Ruta del Sol, the first time he will have turned a pedal in anger since his failed drug test last year for abnormally high salbutamol level in a urine sample taking during last year’s Vuelta a España but not made public until it was revealed by the Guardian and Le Monde.

Froome’s return to racing despite the ongoing anti-doping case and the possibility of a ban has prompted British clothing company howies to produce a special t-shirt design penned by illustrator Dry British. The design and the accompanying press release is clearly a tongue in cheek response to the question of whether Froome should be racing at all.

The t-shirt design is called “extracting the urine” and here's the press release:

The 2018 Ruta del Sol cycle race starts today and Team Sky’s clean maestro Chris Froome will be on the starting line. This despite an “adverse analytical finding” after winning the 2017 Vuelta a España (when tested, he had double the permitted level of the asthma drug Salbutamol in his urine).

What better way to celebrate this man’s remarkable triumph over adversity than with this new Froome t-shirt from howies; expertly penned by illustrator Dry British.
