Super luxurious carbon specialists Lightweight have unveiled the revamped Fernweg aero wheelsets in rim and disc brake versions, and will now also be offering their Urgestalt frameset in 10 different colour options.
Review: Lightweight Meilenstein tubular wheelset
26 of the best road bike wheels
The 2019 Urgestalt frame weighs just 820g in the rim version and 830g for the disc frame, and the method of carbon layup has been revised using technology from the aerospace industry to make it (yes, you guessed it) as stiff and as light as possible. The colours available are blue, cyan, apple green (above), yellow, red, purple, light pink, orange, black or white, with the rim brake frame coming in at £3399 and the disc frame £3499.
First launched in 2012 in an 81mm depth, the revamped Fernweg wheels are now offered in depths of 85mm or 63mm. Better aerodynamics are promised thanks to countless hours of refinement in the wind tunnel, while Lightweight also say they've improved the handling, lowered the weight and improved performance in crosswinds. They are available for clincher or tubular tyres in their rim brake versions, and the disc brake wheels are clincher only. The standard versions have either white or white/red decals (above) or you can choose to splash out on the extra swanky 'Schwarz Edition' with all-black decals and CeramicSpeed bearings (lead image).
If you've drooled over the pics above and decided your life isn't complete without these sumptuous hoops, yet have a relatively normal bank balance, you might be disappointed to find out that the Fernweg range starts from £5,170 for a pair! We're told that the Schwarz Edition could cost an additional £420 - but Lightweight are yet to fully confirm their 2019 price list. Orders can be placed now with the wheels shipping out in 2019, click here to browse if you're a recent lottery winner.
