Tour de San Luis

This just can't get any better! It looks like the Tour de San Luis may trump the TDU for a better field and more exciting racing. Can't wait! 1

The Tour starts on Jan 20 and runs through Jan 26.

Its stages look something like this:

Stage 1 Flat
Stage 2 Cat 1 Summit Finish
Stage 3 Flat
Stage 4 Cat 1 app. 4 or 5 km (maybe lesss) before Finish
Stage 5 19.2K Time Trial
Stage 6 Cat 1 Summit Finish
Stage 7 Flat

I've edited this post to add rider values below 'cause I thought it'd be cool to have a Forum-based Purist competition for the Tour. Please add a team below if you want to participate. Deadline will be at the start of Stage 1. If you make changes to your team please edit your own comment so only your latest team will show up. Happy New Year! 1

Cool, like I said I'll run the Giro, Tour and Vuelta but if anyone wants to run a pick three Aussies/Americans/Brits for the Tour Down Under/California/Britain or any other race they're welcome although it'd be best if we could keep them to meaningful races rather than having a pick three Brits for the Tour of Oman or crap like that.

Also, only one 'pick three' comp per race please 1

Once I've uploaded the spreadsheets I'll stick a forum topic up with the details of how I've run them.

Yup I did run one before and I did it as purist. Its too much effort to try and do it with transfers. The spreadsheet I had wasn't very good, but it worked for me

Here is my purist team (if it comes in budget as I can't open zipped files)

Acevedo
Phinney
Cavendish
Sanatromita
Arrendondo
Diaz
Kangert
Duque
Quintana

Can you send me a copy to try to build on it? Or post a copy here? I'll send you my email address.

I'm attaching the start list below, as a jpg file. It's based on the current one available at ProCyclingStats.com. If someone can resize it to make it easier to view, I'd appreciate it. If you need it I can send you a copy of the data in Excel or as a text file. I also updated the thread (above) to show the start list with the corresponding rider values.

Dave, I have to ask, 4 is there any way you'd consider adding San Luis to the game? I'd be happy to score it! It seems like cyclingnews.com was able to get all the info needed to score the race last year! 4

nope. TDU is the season opener for us and i think it's confusing for new players to immediately have two competitions running

May I request a judicial review on this decision please? : )

I agree with Dave, for the first race of the season the TdU is a good, fairly high profile season opener and it's nice that everyone is just racing one race together. It concentrates the mind and is a good race to start with giving a mix of flat and mountainous terrains.

Running two races concurrently as a season opener is confusing for old and new players alike (I really don't want to have to go from no races to two races straight away) and it feels overly complicated for the first week of the season.

Ok. Purist it is. Here's my team:

37.7 Vincenzo Nibali
36.4 Peter Sagan
21.8 Janier Alexis Acevedo
15.4 Jurgen Van Den Broeck
14.2 Haimar Zubeldia
12.0 Sacha Modolo
3.1 Juan Jose Haedo
3.0 Daniel Diaz
3.0 Leandro Carlos Messineo
Total 146.6

TER, your team comes in just a little high, see below:

37.7 Vincenzo Nibali
30.1 Mark Cavendish
23.7 Tanel Kangert
21.8 Janier Alexis Acevedo
20.1 Taylor Phinney
11.2 Ivan Santaromita
7.4 Leonardo Fabio Duque
3.0 Daniel Diaz
3.0 Julian David Arredondo
Total 158.0

I put up the rider values at the beginning of the thread so you can make some changes. I also sent you my email address so you can send me the spreadsheet, if you can. Thanks! I wish we could do transfers, 'cause there's such a varied terrain, but Purist will have to do!

Got your spreadsheet, TER, thanks! Let's see if more people will join. If you like I can do the daily stage scoring and you can do the team scoring, or vice versa...

No thanks, I won't be running much on the forums this year. Happy to hand over the reigns on the 'pick three' comps too if anyone wants them although if not I'll run them for the grand tours at least.

Might be Saturday before I upload the spreadsheets but I'll sort them out as soon as I can.

Ok. That sounds good.

I think TERatcliffe26 ran a Forum-based competition for the Vuelta Pais Vasco back in 2012 when it wasn't part of the game. I think it ran as a Purist. Maybe that's the way to go. Pick 9 riders with no transfers, otherwise it might be a headache to manage without the game interface.

You're probably right, so maybe I'll see if I have the latest values from last year stored somewhere... but maybe Dave might publish them 39 didn't Dave publish all the values for all the riders on the 'Rankings' link last year? They didn't appear on the game team selection page but you could look at them on the 'Rankings' page, couldn't you? 7

By the way, since you scored games last year, too, do you happen to have any spreadsheets we can use to play San Luis?

Not for a full game, happy to distribute my bodged spreadsheets for the 'pick 3' competitions but I don't have anything set up for a full race.

Shouldn't be too hard to set one up though, a tab per stage with a list of riders then columns for the different types of points (finish line, jerseys, lanterns rouge etc). Sum the columns then 'offset match' or reference them to a tab with the overall results in that one.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Ok. Let's see if when the game opens up they have rider values for all the WorldTour riders that will be in the TSL. I guess for the local team riders we could just assign a 3.0 value... Depending on how many people show an interest we can play Pick 3, or get full 9 man teams and either play two stages, maybe the 'queen stage' and another 2 or 3 stages or or maybe we can play all 7 stages if it's not too many of us... maybe if we're a lot, and especially if the race info is spotty, we could just play counting just finish line points, GC, KOM and PC jerseys, no intermediate sprint points, no KOM, no last man, blah blah blah... let me know...

It looks like the stages are something like this:

Stage 1 Flat
Stage 2 Cat 1 Summit Finish
Stage 3 Flat
Stage 4 Cat 1 Finish
Stage 5 19.2K Time Trial
Stage 6 Cat 1 Summit Finish
Stage 7 Flat

Here's the race profiles link:

http://www.toursanluis.com/etapas/

And the cyclingnews.com forum thread:

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=21627

dr, do you have any spreadsheets from last year or the year before I could use as a model?
