This happens on FB and twitter, where businesses or weirdos follow you/like your page in the hope that you'll reciprocate. They're losers doing it for their benefit, not yours. I usually block them on twitter.
Kudos (definition: acclaim or praise for exceptional achievement) is absolutely worthless without meaning - the person knows your route or the relevance of that ride to you.
Paying it forward
There are no rules. My suggestion is always to behave as you would in the real world.
I did a great time up Swain's lane recently - crickets - morning 4 mile commute - kudos ahoy. Makes no sense.
A 15 minute warmup before a race was my most recent head-scratching kudos moment.
I do wonder how much attention they give it, especially those who follow but don't know me, but having said that some of them leave comments so that indicates more engagement.
It doesn't bother me though. If they want to do it I think "That's nice" and they don't seem bothered that I'm more like Hugor in giving it out. I'll do it if I know the person and the ride is something out of the usual.
You can set your profile so that people have to request to follow you and you approve them, if you want to keep it to people you know. I leave mine open, as sometimes I might know someone but not recognise their Strava name and I'm really not concerned if people have nothing better to do !
Yeah It's to do with clubs you belong to I work for a well known international brand who has an open club on Strava. I started getting randoms from all over the place i though it mat bw people who worked for the company but they were all over the place. One guy who kudos'd me I checked him out and on average got 300 Kudos for every ride he did. I have a feeling he was just looking for randoms to follow him.
I get random kudos'. I think it comes from the strava clubs that I belong to.
It doesn't concern me. I have a few random followers that give regular kudos.
Make sure your security zone is set around your home address.
Otherwise I don't see a threat.
Habitual kudos annoys me more.
Friends who kudos every ride I do no matter how trivial. It undervalues their kudos!
I'm not sure if your supposed to reciprocate the kudos. What are the rules?
I am a stingy kudos supplier. You've got to work hard to get one out of me.
When you get one though you can rest assured that I've studied your ride in sufficient detail to know that you truly nailed yourself and earned it.
Haha, I could've written this, exactly my thinking.
Kudos is special, it shouldn't be given out for any old ride. I'll kudos people for rides I've ridden with them and for any long/hilly rides that they've done.
I've got a few random followers from Brazil, don't mind it.
