Aero is everything

What do you think is the 'easiest' way a cyclist can reduce drag and therefore go faster? According to research done in wind tunnels, it appears as though trading out the round tube road bike for an aero TT bike can save as much as 340 sec over a 40 km TT. Obviously there are many variables on a given day that may change the 340 sec estimation, e.g., wind, nevertheless aero is better.

What I always find amusing is the guy who's spent money on an aero frame, aero wheels and aero helmet but can't hold a position in a fast paceline or just a fast pace full stop. Keep telling yourself you can buy a fast pace, mate.

It's not even a very inviting post, because he seems to answer his own question.

Oh look, getfast posts more spam - it's even from the same website. Great, we get it, you want hits to your site, you could at least own up to it.

Ha, that tour magazine article shows how little difference there is. Unless the measures are very repeatable and accurate I doubt any of that is significant.

Think it goes something like:
Position > clothes > helmet > wheels > frame.
Though if your aero frame allows you to get lower, then that would reap benefits.

340 seconds... Lordy lordy, did he pluck that from thin air?

 24 24 24

Are aero frames the answer? It seems not - 24 frames compared by Tour magazine:

Over a 4+ hour time they calculated the difference between best and worst was 2 minutes. If you look at each brand there is often less than 1 minute between the aero and lightweight models. Money for old rope.

Biggest drag by far, human body. Getting as low and smallest frontal area will give the biggest benefits. I haven't done time trials, but if I put my forearms on top of the bars simulating time trial position, without exerting any more effort my speed immediately goes up 1 - 2 mph.
