There are arguments for and against both... For me it runs as follows:
Weight - superstar
Hub/bearings - superstar as I prefer cheap cartridge bearings to cheap cup and cone for longevity of the hub itself
Spoke count/lacing - draw
Spoke type - Merlin. Not a huge fan of straightpull spokes as it can be harder to get replacements
Skewers - Merlin - the superstar wheels aren't supplied with skewers, so that makes them more expensive and therefore...
Cost - Merlin
For me, at 85kg and with a preference to do my own maintenance the Merlin offering just shades it. For you, at 70kg, the weight vs cost balance is probably the biggest consideration... And if you're happy paying someone to fix them rather than DIYing it the Superstars are probably greater value.
Thanks for the well considered response. Appreciated.
"Superstars are probably greater value." My thoughts as well so here goes nothing (or £93.50).
Don't forget to tell us how they perform in real life.
Will do. And thanks again.
