When did Halfords get into cheap parts?

They aren't touching my bikes obviously.

It got to the point where I'd approximately tripled the service life of my chain and cassette on the day bike. Gear changes on some of the gears were a bit clicky as you'd expect.

A look at the cassette showed the obvious signs of "You've worn it out again"

That's 25,000 miles then.

I rang the LBS, the local cycling charity, and then looked online.

Wiggle, Rutland. Evans, Chain Reaction.

The only place that had a like for like in stock for the 8 speed cassette was Halfords. Everything else was a few pennies cheaper.

Even with having to buy a chain whip, chain breaker and cassette tool (left the last ones at my ex's(another reason why I did 20k without replacing it)), It still came in at £38.

Job done and the hybrid is an absolute joy to ride again.

The 8 speed chain came with an easy fit link. I took one look at that and dropped a link from the new chain and put it together properly.

Next service will include the crankset and less than 10K. See if they caqn match that.
