Medium to high GI sandwiches/real food to fuel a very long Ride

Hi all,

I'm riding the C2C on the Trans Pennines Trail, Its 215 miles with 11000ft of climbing, this will be completed wiothin 24 hrs.
Now I've been testing various foods to eat along the way, we are supported, and be stopping every 50 miles to stock up on food and drink. Honey in white bread, bananas, Gluten free energy bars, Soyreen loaf, Haribos, plus the normal energy/carb drinks and a few bars and gels to get me over the line.

So have any of you got a wonder food to put in a sandwich, which can be cut into 4, or a small snack thaty can be carried in a cycling jersey?

Thanks for looking.

Malc

New potatoes, boiled and skinned with some olive oil, salt and cheese then wrapped in foil. Great savoury snack and easy to digest.

Nice one, I'll have to try that. Except the skinned part. There will be no skinning of the potatoes!

Flapjacks....you can add nuts and dried fruit and also energy powders.
I would stick with real food as much as possible and only use gels when really necessary

You should be able to find some nice Parkin up that way, is that not classed as a wonderfood!?

Cheers guys,

it seems there are no wonder foods!! I am almost certain to make a few rice cakes with a little cream cheese mixed in as well, a savoury snack as adam says will be a nice change on a long day in the saddle.
I bought a gluten free (cheap) white loaf last night, going to try that with some ham today and tomorrow for lunch, just to see if it upsets my stomach.

I've been thinking about experimenting with savoury snacks, as I get a bit sick of sweet stuff on long rides. I made a chicken and mushroom risotto last night, and was planning on making the leftovers into individually wrapped (probably foil) arancini (deep-fried balls of risotto) with mozzarella middles...

I don't think there's any magic involved tbh. I just alternate between whatever is on sale in the supermarket...

- malt loaf (buttered)
- ginger cake
- cereal bars/flapjacks
- belvita breakfast biscuits
- sandwiches (jam or peanut butter depending on what I've got in)

I almost never use gels, I occasionally use the high5 bars (mainly when I get a load from doing a sportive, generally don't actually go out to buy them).
