It's because if you manage to injure yourself in a car, with crumple zones and seat belts and airbags, the likelihood is that you have been involved in a high speed, high energy, high deceleration incident and wouldn't be spending that much time in A&E; you would be heading for theatre or ITU quite quickly.
You have to try pretty hard to come to grief in a car crash these days; hence the attitude of many drivers; we've made driving safe and have shifted the injury/death onto pedestrians and cyclists...
It has becoming a running in joke with the Mrs, she likes these kind of A&E porn shows and it is like, yet another cyclist, I will be OK !
If the same proportion was shown with car accidents ...
Its difficult to call really. More publicty would generally mean a good thing but it can be turned on its head and be put along the lines of they shouldn't use the roads.
I see enough death and destruction at work so i generally dont watch those sort of programmes.
