Deliveroo Jokeroos

Now I am not saying anything happened, but... I was cycling home from work, taking the short way home because my rings are knackered. I was crossing a little junction in West Didsbury that is slightly offset to the left. There was no cars but a green light, and I was just cruising, not going too fast. Now I know this junction and know that vehicles turning right in front of me like to just nip around the corner as the turn favours them. I see a moped coming up to the junction as I am crossing the green, he is clearly turning right, and I am like 'Is this guy gonna stop... [I just ease off, not even braking] No of course not.' He scoots around the corner right in front of me.

So nothing happened right? I was familiar with the junction and avoided a danger and almost encouraged the moped rider to turn by not charging right at him.

Well I saw that the moped rider was a Deliveroo guy and had a learner plate. I have see more and more of these guys and they are zooming around the place, cutting up Audis at the lights by pulling away quickly. I was starting to think it was inevitable I would have a close call with one of them, not that this was bad. But I am expecting more of this kind of thing the way they cut through traffic. They seem to be the Uber of fast food delivery, seem to come from a *cough* certain demographic of young men and many have learner plates (no supervision I see, not sure how that works.) Seem like their profession doesn't owe itself to promoting road safety; there is a certain inevitability that I am going to encounter the aftermath of something involving one of them or be the aftermath. As the Stereophonics once said "The more you fly the more you risk your li-i-ya-i-ife."

Anyone else had a run in with these jokers?

I, thankfully, haven't had any run ins with them but I have witnessed their shitness in terms of swarming other road users, cutting them up, ignoring one ways/no entrys, jumping lights, etc.

I'm currently refusing to eat in any restaurant that uses them.

21 You should live in Turkey like I do - mopeds on the pavement, mopeds (and cycles) never stop at lights, cutting you up all over the place. Bad behaviour is kind of expected though in the dog-eat-dog world of driving in Turkey so you just have to watch out for yourself. Oh, how I sometimes wish I was back commuting by bike through London - then again maybe not.

I've started noticing all these ratty little mopeds with black boxes strapped to the back with the 'Deliveroo' logo - I'd wondered what they were...

Plenty of them on scooters around Manchester and in Birmingham when I was there the other week.

People are bad enough on the road as it is, never mind when they're being paid by the delivery, journey, whatever.

Yep seen em on mopeds around The City in London. And yes they have been mentally filed with 'Addison Lee' and 'Dominos' as moving traffic hazards with take extra care priority. Slow weaving seems to be a specialty.

Had one of these behind me whilst queued up besides a bus at the lights. He started beeping at me and asked to be let past. I was already at the white line, despite this he seems surprised when I said no.

Typically if all drivers they'll get away with it because no one going to atop them.

They have been in Bristol for a while now and seem to have replaced Domino's drivers as those to look out for. One of their mopeds used a pavement cyclepath as a shortcut and nearly collided with a couple of pedestrians.

Hand on heart i've never heard of the company before, however to be a delivery driver / rider you need business insurance for your mode of transport which shoots up your premium.
Perhaps a little word in the ear of your local beat officer to check it out could prove advantegous ????
