Troubleshooting pawl noise

I got a new bike and would like to make sure if everything is all right with it. Normally when I stop pedalling I can hear the pawl noise clicking in the hub. With this bike It is silent when not pedalling and noisy when pedalling?

I would put the bike on a work stand  so you can spin the crank and listen to hear if it is your rear hub pawls, which I doubt by your description.

1. Listen for the noise at the BB then the rear end.

2. Misalighned BB's 'creak' when pedaling where the creak may sound like it's coming from the rear end.

3. If the BB creaks take the bike back to yourLBS to have the BB replaced. If it continues with a new BB the frame is whacked and I would get a new bike.

3. If the BB checks out then listen and look to see if your chain is not rubbing against a cog/s. If so, reset your derailuer limiters.

Are you sure the pawls are making the noise when pedalling?

Some hubs seem virtually silent and some seem to make a lot of chatter when freewheeling, they all work as they should though.

The noise only happens when I pedal and I can't imagine where else would the clickng noise happen. I'll try to go part by part and look where the noise is coming from
