Hi Rob, I'd suggest you get in touch with Maggie Scorer (http://dogontour.co.uk/) who last year did a coastal route round Britain with loaded panniers front and back and towing a large dog in a trailer. I think the dog had to get out and walk on the hills, so I'm sure she (I mean Maggie) could tell you the ones to avoid. Best of luck with your challenge!
An extraordinary human being, and a man who has touched the lives of many through his spirit for adventure, Rob was part paralysed in a traumatic accident in 2007 at the age of fifty. Facing a life in a wheelchair, Robert chose to fight preconceived ideas of just what was possible for someone who could feel nothing below their waist. There begins his story and the beginning of an extraordinary new life.
In 2012 Rob set up Race for the disabled a charity for young disabled hand cyclist, Rob’s dream is to open a club for young disabled cyclist in Crawley West Sussex. He hopes to train the next Paralympians.
Over the last ten years Rob has overcome many physical and mental barriers, completing many events others believed impossible; these events have included Hand cycling from London to Brighton, 24 hour endurance race at Thurxton Motor circuit in which he qualified for race across America in 2017, Ride100, hand cycled from Scotland to London 600 miles in November 2014, raising £12000 for charity, and has hand-cycled in many charity rides all over the UK. These amazing achievements were to be the first of many adventures.
In July 2015 Rob Appeared on ITV Surprise Surprise TV Show, the show was supported by Sunrise Medical who donated 7 hand-cycles to Rob’s club.
Just one of these challenges is more than most of us will attempt in our lifetime. Yet Rob currently has his sights set on a new challenge - this July 2016 he will be hand cycling the coastline of the UK 2,500 miles in 33 days, raising funds for his loved charities. Rob will finish his challenge on the 1st September where he will be greeted by David Cameron at number 10 Downing Street.
I hope to create something special and unique this year and for anyone who wants to join me.
"How do we overcome challenges? Why is it that some of us are fortunate enough to fall down, pick ourselves up, brush off the dust and go again, whilst others let it stop them? Through my personal experiences, adventures and some ongoing research with others who have tackled great challenge, I enjoy sharing some understanding as to how we can learn from the difficult stuff, and use it to do the positive stuff. How we turn things around, no matter how difficult or seemingly impossible they may seem. If we can know ourselves better, we can explore our abilities, and achieve all manner of things we may previously have thought impossible."
"Someone once said to me, 'Disability is a state of mind not a state of body.' That’s a notion that relates to us all, regardless of whether we have a physical disability or not. Our own mind is our biggest obstacle to living and achieving our wildest aspirations. What is life if it isn’t an adventure? I’m constantly amazed by what can be achieved if we set our heart and mind to it. It’s all about finding belief, confidence, motivation and commitment, and of course, friends. Then there are no limits."
