Garmin ripping us off

I have for many years been a massive Garmin fan. Used many product no real issues, great replacement service. After a few years of almost constant daily use my edge 1000 has given up the ghost. The screen isn't working at all. Having tried a few things only to find nothing works but the bullet and rang Garmin. It has recently gone up from 90 quid for a refurb to nearly 200.

Bloody terrible. Anyone have a good alternative to Garmin. I use the map screen quite a lot. The other basic metrics I guess are standard.

Cheers for any suggestions.

Seems lots of Garmin fanbois responding to your post.  A price increase like that is bonkers.

Not at all - just pointing out that he had a piece of electronics that you used practically every day, in all weathers I presume, for "a few years" - and eventually the screen on it went. That would seem to be good service to me, for any manufacturer, and 60 quid for a replacement seems _very_ cheap for something with that scale of sales.

80 for a new screen only not a new unit. What does it cost to replace a phone screen? I've never broken one but I imagine it is less than 200 to replace.

If you're an Apple user then a out of warranty repair will be £135-£175 depending on model....

Like totes, it's like they like like the company like.

Is Garmin Fanbois a French dish?

Mine was one of the first 1000's. Still going strong after being battered and covering thousands of miles. Still doesn't like the cold much though!

So they provided something that lasted for "a few years of almost constant daily use" and are prepared to repair (but at a higher price now) - and that's a rip-off ? Not sure I follow...

the repair price was 90 only s couple of months ago. they have not had a graduated increase over time but just bumped it up to nearly two hundred. Not sure how that can be justified.

Perhaps they're ripping you off - perhaps people have been getting a bargain for ages. However if the head-unit has performed as you say - that's pretty good going isn't it ? Have you spoken to Garmin about it, to an actual human that is ?

Seriously considering the bolt, apparently they have in the last two months or so more than doubled their prices for returns at Garmin.

Wahoo Elemnt bolt, mapping is black and white and not to everyone's taste but works for me when I'm doing a new route.  Also gives outstanding battery life.

Haven't had a Garmin 520 or up so can't compare but very happy I jumped brands.  There are lots of options!

They've put the refurb price up to £200? Bloody hell, that's a massive jump.
