Sorry 2303 is 3-speed. I owe you a double!
Lol.
Mine is a double (usually would say that at a bar but never mind) as has the 2300 logo.
Could be cables, loose or bent or worn derailleur. As well as replacing cable inners I would remove the derailleurs and clean the spring area with a toothbrush and WD40. Pulling on the cable to change gear will generally indicate whether or not there is rust or gunge within the outers. I run 2300, triple (that's what the '3' in the part number is) and like my set-up operating sweetly. Post back if you have problems and I'll take you through the various checks.
Cheers chaps, yeah it is rather irritating especially when I bang on to brother how good I am at spannering then bloody things just keep dropping out of index! New cables it is
With giff27 re the cables. Then try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkzvfCaIbyQ
I have 2300 on my Allez and they work fine. My dad has them on his one and he has problems with the front all the time.
It is frustrating when gears don't play ball, as I have spent plenty of time this week trying to sort the ones on my son's mtb.
I would start with the cables. Replace them and make sure they're properly tensioned. Sometimes it's the simplist things that's causing the problem
