Brake Calipers
I am currently in the process of a bike build but unsure of which brake calipers to buy. I am using shimano sti levers so need to be compatible. Looking on eBay/forum boards at ultegra/force level but if anyone can recommend any others that will be good I would be most grateful. I am unsure about cheaper brands like dia compe & tektro although I hear tektro can be good.

Yeah read some reviews on them and they say the same so I'll steer clear of the I reckon
I think you'll be disappointed if you go for the Planet X CNC. They aren't easy to set up, the original pads will not stop you in the wet and for the money you are better going for Shimano.
If you want to spend lots and you are a weight weeney then take a look at TRP
Re Planet X CNCs I really can sell you a pair! If you want to wait until after the weekend... I'll be putting them on Bikeradar for £55 delivered next week, but you can get in early! Black, used for about a year but not very much, Sunday bike and good weather only.

Sorry, vote against the Planet X CNCs - but if you want I set I will sell them to you! Have just taken them off bike and replaced with Ultegra, and can finally stop again...
Be aware that with the newer (x700) series of STIs and brakes they changed the leverage ratio slightly so that shimano products work best when using matching series brakes, so pre x700 series you can mix or match as you like, x700 series, the latest, are best when you use x700 components, though DuraAce, Ultegra and 105 all work together.
Not sure the difference is massive, but I have 105 700 series STIs and 700 series Ultegra and it's the best caliper braking I've experienced yet.
I've used the Planet X cnc ones for a couple of years and like them. One heads up because of the roller cam they don't sit with equal gap from the rim. With disco pads they are fine for me.
Wee lever that opens up the brakes to allow a quick wheel change without deflating the tyre. Really handy if in a hury and you don't want to balance your bike while trying to pump up the tyre with a mini pump. There is a thread (link below) about it.

campagnolo cenatur are very nice, only issue is they dont have the wheel release for shimano. but not a terrible issue unless your racing. i actually removed and sold my ultegra 6700 calipers as they were all power no modulation. sounds great having loads of power but they were savage. would lock the rear wheel with a delicate touch. utter nightmare. now running campag centaurs, puuuurfect. light and can be had for £40 a set on ebay, black and red so very pretty
