Shifting issues

I fitted a new pair of shifters last week (105 5700), new chain, cassette and rear mech and, of course, all cables. The front mech was Ultegra so I left that alone.

Anyway, I've got a couple of issues:

1, The rear shifter seems to stick a little. Occasionally it takes two presses (and consequently jumps two gears). I was VERY careful to get no kinks in the cable and everything is brand new.

2, The front shifter takes a hard push to get across. It didn't with the Tiagra shifter I replaced and, as I said, it's the same mech. Could this be the same problem as above.

So, any helpful hints? First time I've done new road stuff, I'm far more accustomed to MTB but had no problems like this on those.
