Foxy - have you seen this?
http://road.cc/content/news/95481-customers-bid-farewell-london-bike-sho...
For him now it's all about weight savings. His mtb dips below 24lb.
His Allez has lighter wheels, tyres, stem, etc but he is finally thinking of changing to a compact on it. Giving up the 52/39.
Finished now for season, and will be riding mainly 72 inch fixed, until the spring, lots of us oldies cut our cycling teeth on fixed, love riding it.and do about 100+miles per week.
Good to hear. My dad used to ride in his own mainly. Very much about setting himself personal challenges, like London to Brighton on a fixed wheel with no getting off, etc.
He is 75 now and still riding. Mostly on his light mtb but has an Allez road bike too.
I seem to remember Sunn, did your Dad Time Trial,or Road Race?I have ridden for 57yrs,from age 9,still time trialling, and happilly beating age standards.
I'm pretty sure it was a yellow Sunn (or Sun) my dad bought BTW.
I used to pop in loads in the late 80'a but I was more mtb biased back then.
Those were good days,Super Dom,I was riding for East Surrey RC,up until 1972,when I got married and moved to Notts.Lots of the lads here ride Planet X,they are not too far away,at Rotherham, other side of M1,from Meadowhall.I suppose one of the big bike shops down London way is Condor.
Cool.
The shop is still there (although on the other side of the road from when my dad was young I believe) and I popped in with kids during the summer holidays for old times sake.
I bought a water bottle with the shop logo too.
First decent road bike was a Holdsworth Cyclone,531 tubing, road it for many years, and went under the hour for 25 miles on it.The shop in Putney was always busy, the Manager was Roy Thame, who was also the team manager of the HOLDSWORTH PRO TEAM,such riders as Les West, and I beleive Keith "legs" Lambert, rode for the team, late 60,s early 70,s.Dont know what the Bikes are like now,but one of our Club has a rather tasty looking Holdsworth TT machine in carbon. It wont hurt to have a look.
Can't comment on the quality but as someone who knows the original shop it makes me sad to think of it being just a name now.
My dad bought his first ever road bike from them.
