As a passenger in a car one night a couple of winters ago, I saw a rider with what looked like red reflective tape down the backs of the seat stays. It was very effective, like the white tape posted above.
Ta, ordered, will post results!
Coming soon http://www.blaze.cc
disclaimer - I backed them via kickstarter
I need some new lights, possibly not quite as cutting edge as some of this though!
Strobe jacket?

Quite like the look of that prototype that used some funny chemicals in the tyre wall to light up the tyres when in motion as well.
I'd love a set of the top of the line Monkey lights. Just need someone rich and foolish to buyt them for me
I was very fortunate to be given some Lezyne USB lights. They're pretty ace.

Very solidly built and easy to clip on and off the bike... and I guess if you get into the routine of plugging them into your computer at work a couple of times a week you'll never run out of juice.
I was also given one of these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lezyne-super-drive-xl-front-light-loaded-1/
And it's incredible. So, so bright. Used it on the Dunwich Dynamo and it was one of the brightest lights out there... it's like a proper headlight.
where did you get the tape? been thinking of doing that to my commuter (a black Kona)

2m covered one side, but I got 15mm, I think a wider tape would be better and would cover more back/forward edges.
I had see the blaze light but didn't include it as it is a bit of a gimmick for me. Only good for undertaking traffic in the dark?
Anyone else seen anything cutting edge? Pros and cons? I am thinking, more black light tape, Sparse lights and maybe Monkeylectics would make a good package.
Halo belt, nice If I wanted to pop out and not fiddle with lights, maybe down the pool hall. Never leave the lights behind.

Sparse lights, USB charged and designed with security in mind, don't have to take them off the bike when parked. Only concern is the brightness and would the front one mess my spacers up. Just released after the kickstarter so taking orders for delivery later.

Monkeylectic. This is just the mini lights, they have full wheels systems. Choose you own pattern, very tron light bike. Great side visibility, much smaller then the Revo, wouldn't look so good stopped at the lights.

Meanwhile I have been keeping an eye on some Kickstarter projects. I currently have two Cateye Opticubes and a 5 LED cateye red bar on the back. They are reasonably bright but use up the AAAs. I would like something that actually cast some light forward and more side visibility (to stop Icecream vans swinging out from the right who don't know their own turning circle.) And maybe something that is USB based for charging.
So I wonder what you guys think of some of these new technologies:
Revolights, gyroscopic LED projection forward and back. Very bright looking and side view excellent, but I would be concerned about the weight as the bands go all the way around the rim; having them fitted to the wheels all winter might put me off training.

This is 2m of 15mm tape. with direct light from the flash on it, quite effective! covers the right side. I think I will get more and wider tape and do both sides and back to boost visibility.
