Decent season although I didn't do so much after the Vuelta. Started well in Tour down Under (did well in that the previous year as well), should have won Early Classics but the break was caught at the last minute in the Roma race!! Got 2nd in a Giro stage and 1= in a Vuelta one but lost the prize on a coin toss ; even won Forum Vuelta purist
Got some socks for Three Italians and a decent prize in another comp in the TdF.
Couldn't play Dauphinee or Tour de Suisse for personal reasons so overall position nosedived from top 10 to top 100 after missing some other comps as well.
Probably play the same way next season. Put in a decent bit of effort to prepare for the Tour and all its comps, not just this one, then ease off and pick and choose a few races like Vuelta, Lombardy and Worlds.
Be interesting to see if there are any changes next year. If I have something to say on that I'll put it in the relevant forum thread but I think it is good to change things around and have to try new tactics, otherwise it will get stale.
Now I'm mainly working on my Veloviewer score. Plenty of crap segments to improve my position on and my one (irrelevant) KOM to defend!!
Firstly I enjoyed it immensely and it definitely improved my Pro-Cycling knowledge.
52nd overall(just outside of my top 50 target).
6th in London(after running 2nd quite a way into the season).
12th in Forum's Scorum's overall which shows the strength of that private league.
Nailed all the badges.
Disappointed not to get a stage win all season and not win an event in the Forum's Scorum's and MUST improve my purist(55th overall).
Season started horribly when bombed out in Tour Down Under and slowly became more interested in the game (first year playing the season). Did not compete in purist. Started doing well in the Spanish races (live in Spain) and this was stimulus to do better in other lesser races.
Best result was probably consistency in the grand tours with 12th in the Giro, 3rd in the Tour de France, and 9th in the Vuelta. Still kicking myself for swapping out Pierre Rolland in the TDF just before he went on a points-earning rampage, but happy with the helmet and specs earned by just squeaking in for 3rd overall.
No stage wins or race wins, but came close in several, just pipped at the end for the win in Eneco Tour. Hard to sustain concentration at end of season after the Vuelta, and missed competing in two stages entirely out of laziness.
Overall addictive and entertaining game. Results tended to improve when devised strategy at beginning of race for entire race and stuck to a plan from stage to stage and made quick corrections (with penalties) when plan needed correction. Crashes and abandons are always the unpredictable wildcards but over time usually affect all nearly equally.
Many thanks to all the organizers for an excellent game, very well managed, and worth every penny and more.
HI All,
Synopsis of my year is as follows:
Very slow start to the year with some average placings in the early tours and classics and peaked twice during the year. First peak was the Tour of California with a 4th place finish for my Purist and an 8th Place finish for my normal team with the second peak being the Vuelta where I won the purist competition and placed top 50 with my normal team.
Other notable events were the Tour of Poland with my highest score 288 points and two top 25 placings in the purist leagues of the USA Pro Challenge and the GP Quebec & Montreal.
Goals for next season as to be more consistent on my normal team and to contribute more on the forum as I am definitely a watcher and not a contributor.
I just want to echo what has been mentioned several times before and say thanks to Dave and the rest of the guys who put up a lot of their time to make this game so excellent!
Didn't start playing until midway through Eneco tour so I kept my tenner in my pocket. Got 5000 points by the end of the season and top ten in world championships. Very happy with that, much better than I could have imagined. Roll on next year
I would say thats exceptional in Grand Tours TER - good work. I wonder who had the best aggregate score across the three Grand Tours.....
Can't complain really, finished 10th overall and 5th purist overall, (2nd and 3rd in the forum respectively). My only competition win came with my purist team at the tour de med, managed a 2nd place and 4th place with my standard team in the early classics and volta ao algarve, so my spring form was pretty good. then I came 2nd overall at the giro del trentino. My purist team grabbed 2nd place at the ENECO tour, 3rd place at the TdS and another top 10 at the USA pro cycling challenge. And I was solid in the GT's, finishing 27th in the Giro, 13th in the TDF and 84th in la Vuelta.
Obviously very happy with this year
Certainly didn't see this coming, just hit good form round about the Giro and was somehow able to keep it going.
Picked up my first stage wins and tour wins (Dauphine and Eneco) but unfortunately nothing that gets me a prize
Maybe next year I'll sort out how to pick a good classics team and find time to contribute to the forum (although the girlfriend might have something to say about that, she thinks I spend too much time on this as it is)
Just like to thank to Dave, the guys at road.cc and the volunteers for running the competition. Have really enjoyed taking part, its definitely getting bigger and better. Looking forward to see what changes there are for next year, but not the withdrawal between now and TDU
It took me until the last stage, of the last race, to win a stage! Better late than never. Chapeau to all who played this season and see you all next year.
Very pleased. Won the purist league despite forgetting to enter a team in the easiest stage to predict WC TTT. Was more forgetful in the standard competition and missed a few transfers but happy with top ten. Like Sky I must improve on my classics form, poor planning and a lack of riders at the business end of races.
Finished in the top 100 overall and at least one of every badge, I'm happy!
I had lots of fun playing this year. I only discovered this game last year, and I feel I got the hang of it in 2013. Was hoping to finish in top-20 overall for the year, and finished 29th. But I did not play in over a dozen races, including three Classics, so I guess I should be happy with a top-30 finish for the year. I seem to do better in shorter stage races than I do in the GT's, but I had several scores over 200 pts, a few stage wins, and my high score was 270 in the USPCC stage 4. Next year's goal: top-10 overall. Thanks for a great game!
Season goes out with a bang. Needed a podium place on a stage which has eluded me all season and guess what..... I missed it. 7th overall on the last day and the 20 point penalty cost me third. No complaints as I won the purist Tour of Beijing, gaining five places on the last day . Winning the purist Tour of Beijing coupled with my purist win of Early classics were easily the highlights of the year. My standard team finished 20th overall and 4th in forum scorums for the year, my challenge is to improve both of those next year. My grand tours were especially disappointing this year, only just making the top 50 for the giro, and a stunning 838th purist in the Vuelta.
I echo all the comments here about what a wonderful game this is. Easily the best tenner I spent this year. Please do not change the game too much I think I may be starting to get the hang of it.
Top in N. Ireland can't do better than that (beat the other half thats the main thing). Roll on 2014. Thanks to everyone who makes this so much fun.
Obviously I'm delighted with how the year turned out. 2nd in both the standard and purist overall leagues (I'll have to think of a Raymond Poulidor related team name for 2014 ;)) and I got the big one, the Forum's Scorum's.
I definitely peaked quite early with the individual competitions, but I'm not complaining because I won Tour Med, Early classics and a prize in the Spring Classics.
I didn't do great in GT's, although I did finish 42nd in the Giro for the second year in a row, so I'll be looking to defend that again next year.
My team stagnated a bit in the middle of the season, which I think was inevitable because I couldn't maintain the effort I put in during the Spring. Maybe I'll try a different approach next year.
Top 3 overall. 2nd in the dauphine and tour de Suisse. A couple of equal stage wins, but no tour win.
Sounds like Rodriguez. Wait, he finished top overall. Valverde then.
Quite happy with that given I started the season in 214= following the TDU. Made it a goal to get to top 10 once I had got into the top 100, and that happened much more easily than I expected. Surging right to the top, (What was the form slump Wig_Billy?) but then just dropping back a bit recently. Would you believe we are expecting no. 5?
Great game. Thanks to the guys at road.cc
I have really enjoyed it. As with last year.
I seem to have got a lot more competent as the season has worn on resulting in some better results.
The premium competition has been really good and given me more interest in certain races that I would not have been focused on in previous seasons.
Like many i experience that post-Tour lull. So this game has helped me get into the Vuelta and other races.
Roll on 2014.
I've set up a thread for everyone to show off their badges:
http://road.cc/content/forum/96410-brag-about-your-badges
What an encompassing year again, addictive to say the least!
Very happy finishing TOP 5 overall and two tour wins ending in Beijing.
No prizes.. close but no cigar!
Thanks for everyones effort to provide a brill game
My 2nd full season(joined during 2011 Giro) and i'm very pleased indeed
41st overall (143rd Last Year)
Giro 158th (346th)
Tour de France 646th (288th)
Vuelta 82nd (488th)
Didn't win any Tours but came 5th overall in the Quebec/montreal and The Autumn Classics.
Joint 1st or 2nd?? on stage 1 of the Giro Very Pump for my troubles.
2 Forum Scorum wins Poland purist and Quebec/Montreal Standard(can't have Wig win everything can we)
Next Year think i may put a bit more effort into my purist selections?
Nice to see a few new faces and Thank-you to the Road.cc team for running an excellent season AGAIN!!
P.S.
More of the same next year please without too many big changes.
Completed the dashboard collection on the final stage of the final race with the elusive tour top ten.
Also finishes with seventy sprint badges, which is a decent haul
Two and a half years ago I didn't know what a peleton was, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Though I'm still amazed how people pick high scoring riders from left field. Must be a special UK website for inside info.
Probably terribly unBritish to point out, but it seems unique that someone scored three consecutive grand tour top ten finishes. 6th in Vuelta 2012, 2nd in Giro 2013, 9th in TdF 2013 and sadly only 11th in Vuelta 2013.
Congrats to road.cc on a great game system and website. Looking forward to next year.
Cheers
Pretty happy with my 12 Lanterne Rouge's, that took some skill
First premium and first full year for me. Slow slide from the heady days where I was 3rd overall in purist and just got pipped for 8th overall, but very happy with that. One win in the spring classics and a second in Tour of California purist. Enjoying wearing my socks. Missed a few stages due to my own incompetence. Huge thanks to everyone involved in organising - it's been great fun and great value for a tenner. To anyone suggesting "professional" organisation, I'd just say be careful what you wish for - anyone who's done any Silent Manager games will know what I mean. This is great - keep it personal and fun.
Back to football to feed my fantasy addiction, I guess.
Yea been a great first season for me after joining at the beginning of the giro. Lots of fun and learnt a lot about the sport as I've also just stated riding myself.
Overall pretty happy with my results. seem to be better at the classics, after my surprise win of the Classic San Sebastian and one silly drunken transfer from finishing 2nd in the Autumn classics. C'est la vie.
After starting late was pleased to get into the top 500 overall. Just really looking forward to starting next year off from scratch.
Cheers to the guys that put their time into running the game, and thanks to everyone else for making it so enjoyable!
See you all next year!
Not a good season for myself but i've been doing my coaching badges for my sons football team which has taken up quite a bit of time so less time sorting my teams out.
However i've thoroughly enjoyed the year with some good scores on certain stages and its not about winning but enjoying the game imho.
Lets hope Wig Billy's computer breaks for next year to give us all a chance
It's been my second season and it's been one of the best value £10 I've ever spent.
Forum Scorum World Champs was the obvious highlight of the season. Getting soundly beaten in all three grand tours by my brother is going to lead to a long winter of soul searching.
Great start, 9th in Spring Classics and 3rd in Catalunya and was lying 11th overall after Trentino. Fell away after a disastrous Dauphine (869th!!) but still look like finishing top 25, a big improvement on 178th in my rookie season last year!
Won stage 1 of Eneco as well which was an unexpected bonus. Main thing recently has been overall purist, have a decent chance of finishing 3rd but we shall see tomorrow. No Forum Scorum wins tho'... (Damn you Wig_Billy!)
Grand Tours - Giro 228th, Tour 77th, Vuelta 95th.
Will probably ease off a bit next year - aiming to crack the Giro though! Nice to see a bit more involvement in the Forum as well, and some new faces.
Now time to focus on the footy - I'm almost last in the road.cc league so a bit of catching up to do...
Bah - after I wrote this, I missed out on my last chance of a Forum Scorum's competition win by just 5 points! To whom? You guessed it...
no top threes in comp. Boo hoo.
