Sagan was great fun all season, loved froome and Quintana in the French mountains, but favourite moment was cancellara and Vanmarcke coming to a near stop in the Roubaix velodrome......unbelievable stuff, was on the edge of my seat yelling with excitement...
I'll go with Tony Martin as rider of the year. Can't really pick a race? maybe L.B.L
Must say though was extremely disappointed with Santambrogio! just when you think doping is out of the pro-peleton Vini fantini are there too wake us all up.......
Tony Martin for his immense ride in the Vuelta and for winning the worlds when, according to some, it was tipped to be between Cancellara and Wiggins.
Race wise i dont really know because they all had their special moments, but if i have to pick one its the final stage of the Tour seeing the sprint then Sky coming over the line together.
I thought the Worlds was a great race and Rui Costa had a great season....2 stages in the Tour(with that fist pump in the rain my 'Marc Madiot moment'),Overall in the Tour De Suisse and the rainbows.
I'd probably go J-Rod though to be honest.
I reckon Visconti has had a great year, those two stages at the Giro were incredible, and he was chirpy at the World's as well.
Movistar in general have been really fantastic, and Dowsett's win at the Giro was also impressive.
Ronde van Vlaanderen was fun, ToB was great, especially standing on Whitehall watching Cav take the stage and Brad the overall... that was special.
In terms of all out amazingness - it's got to be Tony Martin and THAT breakaway in Spain. Unbelievable.
Race would be Paris Roubaix, race moment would be Cancellera showing Sagan what a Trek looks like from behind at Flanders.
As for rider - Dan Martin for his win in L-B-L, winning the Volta a Catalunya, the stage win in Le Tour and his overall consistency
Best race for me was tour of Britain. My rider of the year is Tony Martin.
Hmm
Race of the year has to be Paris-Roubiax. I love it.
Rider, that's touch more difficult. Cancellara's double on the cobbles or Martin's 100 and odd kilometre time trial in the Vuelta.
Tony Martin has to be my rider of the season. Passing out (twice) from the pain of his lung contusions after a crash on the first stage to go on and win the time trial a few days later is a bit special, and his solo ride in the Vuelta was thrilling to follow and cheer on.
I loved Milan - San Remo (Stannard's attacking, Phinney's famous tweeted photo followed by his monumental effort to chase down the lead group at the end) but I missed Paris-Roubaix unfortunately.
Betancur and Henao's slow-motion sprint finish on stage 3 of the El Pais Vasco was another highlight, as was Sagan's amazing ride in that stage in Oman when he bridged across solo to the lead group and then went straight past them to win.
And the penultimate stage of Tirreno-Adriatico was a beast!
Tour of Britain for me , wasn't it just great to see such big crowds for our home tour. With a good field and decent tv coverage it's on the up. As mentioned above Dan Martin as rider of the year.
Race for me was Paris Roubaix by a long shot, seeing them take the ride to Cancellara made for brilliant racing.
Rider(s), Quintana, started to take more notice of him this year as serious GC after the Tour of the Basque Country. And Dan Martin, a week long stage race win, a tour stage and a monument, plus the 4th places in Wallonne and Lombardia
my remarks were drawn towards the amazing achievements of certain older guys and I am not an ageist person (how could I be, I am an old fart myself!) so let's just focus on the youngsters - Sagan was the most watchable rider because you kind of knew he was going to be there or thereabouts, closely followed by Kittel.
Milan San-Remo for one day race, short stage race is a tough one, I rather enjoyed the tour of Poland, but the early races of PN and TA were good, and I always enjoy the American races. I think it goes the Giro followed by, the Vuelta then the TDF for GT's
As for riders I was really impressed by Dan Martin, also Nico Roche in the Vuelta, but you've probably got to give it to either Quintana or Betancur. Equally Moreno and J-Rod left big marks too, and Rui Costa was impressive too when let off the leash. Without overlooking the sprinters, all the big names had impressive spells.
Biggest disappointment for me was Guardini, a complete no show
Oh and world champs of course - very exciting.
Favourite moment, Tony Martin's 7th place finish. Race, Flanders for Cancellara's attack to leave Sagan gasping. Also enjoyed ToB in the lakes, climbing up that river bed, I mean Honister.
I largely with sm on this:
Tony Martin's epic lead, stage six, Vuelta. Pure grit.
Cancellara leaving Sagan behind in Flanders.
ToB - Dan Martin and Quintana attacking on Honister Pass
and Quintana again in the TdF, un-nerving the 'heavyweights' on the hills.
It is probably a stretch to say rider of the season, but my favorite rider has been Zdeněk Štybar, partially for Paris-Roubaix, but also for making the Eneco tour worth watching.
Race is a toss up between the Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo. Even though it was shortened, it was still a good race.
My single favorite moment was Pozzato coming second in Roma Maxima.
Race of year PR. Rider of year has to be Froome then Sagan.
Race of year PR. Rider of year has to be Froome then Sagan.
Sagan and J-Rod for riders of the year
Vuelta for best racing. Tour and Giro were pretty boring
Race of the year - I loved watching Paris-Roubaix this year; grand tour wise, honestly I'd probably say the TdF, just followed it the closest and it is The Tour, after all.
Rider, for Fantasy you've got to love Sagan for sheer reliability of getting points. It's a rare race in which he doesn't score. But I've loved seeing the real emergence of both Carlos Betancur and Nairo Quintana.
The tour after a lot of thought, and Horners epic contest in the Vuelta.
Race was probably the Giro for those epic snowy mountain stages.
Rider for me was Kittel. Brilliant at Le Tour.
Can we add team of the year?
For me Argos for how they handled Kittel and out-sprint trained Quickstep.
I'l take Sagan and the Tour...
