I think it reads that the bobby 'can't be sacked', I'm sure there's some HR reason for this but I'm jiggered if I know it.

I just came here to post exactly the same story. Anyone who refuses to name an offending driver should be brought to court and made to repeat their refusal under oath, which would then place them in contempt of court, which then would mean that they would be detained in prison until they decided to change their mind. What the hell does multimillionaire Noel Gallagher care about a £1000 fine and six points when he doesn't even drive?

Police in "making up rules to suit themselves results in little censure from colleagues and zero punishment" shock.

It is outrageous, just can't get surprised about this.

Am I reading this right? No charges against the driver, because he can't remember it, but the passenger is facing charges?!
It seems to support the "deny, deny, deny" ethos that runs rampant these days.

Officers were called to Clingoe Hill, Colchester, after reports a car had crashed into a tree.

An onlooker ran to the 19-year-old driver’s assistance, offering for him to borrow their mobile phone.
The driver then fled the scene with the borrowed phone, but he failed to outsmart police officers who tracked him down using the phone’s technology.

This sounds bad and I hope all fully recover, but how many buses are going under low bridges?

A drunk driver who caused a head-on collision while driving the wrong way along a motorway has been spared jail.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-65670368

Denny was also given a 20-month suspended prison sentence and banned from driving for 10 years at a sentencing hearing on Friday.

Quite a long ban, so doubtful if she will drive again.

"Red traffic lights in London could be switched off from 10pm until 7am if Sadiq Khan is sacked as Mayor Tory hopeful Dan Korski today vowed to impose a radical shake-up of London roads."

"Hi @DanielKorski - I sometimes cycle on main roads between 10pm and 7am, and sometimes cross them on foot. Any good tips as to how I could do that without traffic lights? Stay at home? Just hope for the best? Thanks."

keep pushing that driver privilege, Cllr Toms

His voice cracking with emotion, Looe councillor Armand Toms told the Conservative cabinet:

"I'm going to challenge you all the way on this because you've hurt the people of Looe, you've hurt the businesses of Looe and that's why I'm here to make sure that the voice of Looe is heard. I'm shouting it as hard as I can because nobody else in the chamber seems to care about 5,300 people. You've done the same to Seaton and Downderry where you've put their charges up too... You don't care - you really don't."

Peterborough speeding driver crashes hired Lamborghini

Dashcam footage captured the moment a speeding driver crashed a Lamborghini he had hired on a busy city road.

Strange comment on no insurance - that's part of the hire.

'Catastrophic' car ban which sparked protests in Paignton could be scrapped

Traders said it turned the resort into a 'ghost town'

https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/catastrophic-car-ban-sparked-p...

It's not a spot I know; I can think of some quite old town centre pedestrianisations and I'm not convinced that the full-on approach is best. But cars will be crap where ever you allow them.

People are poorer/ have less disposable income  (I won't go into why), we all know about on-line (although some trades don't seem to have worked out what they can do to fight back).

I think of some town centres where there's been some environmental enhancement in the centre, but the whole place is cut off from its surrounds by a combination of (i) the local river (ii) relief road / iffy underpasses (iii) string of iffy car parks - particularly after shop hours.

I just wonder whether allowing cars again here is going to be the shot in the arm the traders are imagining.

Must. Drive. Car.

What do you mean "don't go out, the weather is bad"? You mean don't drive my car today? I don't understand. Is it possible to not drive?

"I feel like I've been grassed up by the lawnmower nimbies."

This nonsense has made it into several newspapers, but I'm sticking with the local rag Cornwall News covering that well known West Country town Holme-next-the-Sea.

Boomer receives council letter. I felt the story was interesting because I thought motors were part of who we are now, no sense complaining, fella's got to do his job etc. He doesn't exactly say "I'm prepared to go to court over this", but he sounds pretty dug-in.

More evidence of MPs ignoring traffic laws. It only makes the news because these particular MPs were caught trying to avoid punishment by getting the tax payer to pay the fine, but how many MPs get FPNs and it never makes the news?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65736601

Also, how exactly does one "inadvertently" submit an expenses claim?

18 months of Drivers and their Problems -1,000 posts

Thank-you all contributors. I mean it's tough being a driver, the whole system is stacked against you, can't do this,  mustn't do that can't park there and the expense: don't even.  Mass car ownership and driving in the UK is in great shape and not remotely a policy with no future or one that stands to deprive a lot of people of theirs.

Keep ' em coming.

Edinburgh bus repeatedly rammed by motorist in bizarre video

Well, the bus wasn't wearing hi-viz or a helmet, nor was it using the bus lane that the car, all on its own, had paid millions to build.

It's all the speed limit's fault!  Hey - how about just having a universal speed limit of 200 m.p.h., and then there would be no speeding offences?  It's not as though drivers have any control over their speed, after all.
